The book Cynthia and Dan that was written by Dorothy May Mercer is a thrilling and captivating book filled with romance, adventure, and a bit of mystery. The book begins by delving into the life and character of Cynthia Patterson. Patterson is not only the chief of security for senator Mike McBride but is also secretly busy with organizing, alongside her brother Glenn Patterson, a cyberwar to protect attacks against The United States. Balancing her work life and her secret life has been nothing short of an amusing and nail-biting journey to read. However, the added balance of her romantic life added that extra bit of curiosity and roller-coaster plot twist that left me at the edge of my seat and for that, I commend Mercer.

The book is not long nor drawn out as Mercer did well to compose such a well thought out and impactful storyline in such a short book. The different aspects of the book made sure to keep the book exciting yet asking for more. Some readers might argue that the title of the book may be a bit deceiving as the title lures one to believe that the novel equally covers the life of both Cynthia and Dan but when reading, one would have the inclination that one character featured more than the other. Yet, the two characters are nevertheless intertwined and fairly read about. The book is well suited more to the young adult audience who are more interested in romance, a bit of mystery, and an overarching theme of adventure.

What I thoroughly enjoyed about the book was the plot twists that quite literally, blew me away. The cyberwar storyline was so well written and mysterious that I found myself asking for more. However, what I did find displeasing was the erotic romantic scene that was quite graphic and inserted some imagery I would have personally enjoyed more if it was left out. Therefore, as a result of that scene, I do not recommend the book for a younger audience but rather a more mature audience.

I would happily rate this book 3 out of 4 stars as I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns and the well thought out storyline. The reason I would rate this book in this manner is because of the erotic scene that at first made me a bit hesitant to continue reading but other than that, the book was well written, well edited and created an adventure and mystery that was quite effective in grappling the reader to not only connect with the storyline but with the characters as well.
