The message of The Secrets to Living a Fantastic Life... Two Survivors Reveal the 13 Golden Pearls They’ve Discovered is one of simple truths. The authors are Dr. Allen Lycra and Harriet Tinka. Dr. Lycra was diagnosed with Lou Gerig’s disease (ALS) in the prime of his life. Harriet Tinka, a young woman that at one time was a supermodel, and then a young student when tragedy struck.

With the sharing of life trials each of the writer’s experiences, and stories or illustrations to support each point. They break down the thirteen golden pearls or thirteen characteristics that help them to achieve their most fantastic inner-self. Dr. Lycra and Harriet Tinka write with a style that is simplistic and an easy read. Dr. Lycra shares his steps of grief. Which is a very important part to the road of finding your peace. Harriet Tinka shares how a simple truth from a 9 year-old girl changes her journey.

Dr. Lycra was diagnosed with Lou Gerig’s (ALS) and was given six months to live. He struggles through the stages of grief and he chooses to live. He does research online before as he puts it, Dr. Google became a thing. He comes in contact with a doctor that does not settle for a definitive answer either. With more testing he finds out he was misdiagnosed. Harriet Tinka lived with the unknown being terrorized by a stalker that had been a close friend and was attacked and left for dead. Her life had been taken away from her and she was filled with rage and mad at the world. They share the moment that each other made the choice to make a change in their lives.

The simplistic way of writing makes it easy to concentrate on the individual chapters as you are reading them. Several examples from different faiths are mentioned but in a subtle way. There is an illustration on page 55 of the Japanese concept of “ikigai” that I think is an important concept to point out. This illustration is a perfect example of the content being simple enough to retain. As a reviewer why is this so important to me. Yes, I chose the book to review. When I started reading the book, I was a person that needed to read the book. I know and understand the thirteen golden pearls contained in the book, but it never hurts to be reminded and strengthened by the words of others. That is the purpose of the Dr. Lycra and Harriet Tinka to strengthen the reader.

I rate The Secrets To Living A Fantastic Life… a 4 out of 4. The writing is simple to understand and well edited. I believe with the intent with which this book is intended that it is very important for the writing style to be this way. Each chapter starts with an inspirational saying, a short story and then the authors go into conversation for discussion and light banter of long time friends. I will say that this publication can reach a male and female audience due to the fact of a male and female author. This book would not be an interesting read if someone is happy and very secure in their own skin. I can see this book marketed as a self-help book or a group-study book.
