Finding our true purpose in life is one of the most common things we all want to know about ourselves. In The Bell Maker, the main character Jules receives letters from his late grandfather about his previous life as a bell maker. The story highlights moments throughout his grandfather’s journey of being a bell maker and how he stood up for what he believed in and fought for justice. This book is very relatable to the pressures we face and how we must face them and make the right decisions.

Chris Bowen explained the whole story from a unique perspective and intertwined deep meaning throughout the entire plot. The author explains in detail about Jules’ grandfather’s village in a different land and how he tried to bring change as the bell maker. It portrays the struggles as his grandfather is fighting for his God when everyone else is in opposition. It is a very interesting representation of how we forget our values when modern views arise. Overall, the plot is well written and has a strong, but a slow plot.

This book has very little inappropriate language and is suitable for young adults and older adults. This story of struggle and perseverance will encourage everyone to stand up for their beliefs. This book is also very well edited and was an easy read. Content-wise there were no sex scenes or innuendoes. There is no other negative content besides minor language in the beginning.

My rating of this book is 3 out of 4 because the story is well written but can be slow at moments. I did not give it a lower rating because the quality of the book is great and the storyline is very different and unique. I did not give it a higher rating because the slow parts were harder to get through and lost my attention at times. What I liked most was how the grandfather’s village was portrayed and how such perfection can easily be corrupted by evil. I disliked most of the in-between talks because I found them to be slow and drawn out too long.

Overall, The Bell Maker is a fantastic story with great values many people need to hear to learn more about themselves and how they can change for the better. The storyline is beautiful even with some slow moments, but the true plot and theme shine through for the readers. Although there is some minor language, there is no other objectionable content that would be negative for the reader. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to looking at my own life and how I can change to be able to stand firm in my beliefs. I suggest this book to people looking for an easy but powerful read.
