Review by Moh2 -- Business Basics BootCamp by Mitche Graf
Mitche Graf is a best-selling author, international speaker, serial entrepreneur, athlete and a father of three. This obviously encouraged me to take up Business Basics BootCamp – The Ultimate Crash Course. As the name suggests, it’s about basic business principles that potential and successful businesspersons should apply to start and run a business. This is no ordinary business journal or mumble-jumble. It involves simple every day practices and mindsets one must adopt and keep, to stay afloat in the business arena.
Graf recommends that we ought to be Unleashed Entrepreneurs (UE). This is one who finds more ways to work less and live more. The successful businessperson is characterized by less time for family and fun. However, he believes every day is a Saturday. One should wake up every day with a sense of excitement and enthusiasm to live his or her life by design. Is this even possible? Grab the book to find out!
I liked quite a lot about the book. The writer uses a lot of relatable examples and explanations such as Bob and the professional land care company. Chapter 7, Harnessing Social Media, appealed to me the most as it’s quite relevant to today’s business scene. The writer certainly knows his stuff. There isn’t much I disliked about the book. The thing I disliked the most is repetition of concepts and ideas. A good example is the voicemail analogy. My favorite quote is ‘To get the most out of life, we must continue to be students.'
The editing of the book was above average. I found few errors from the start, but found quite a number at chapter six. An example is repetition at page 229 - …the most important most important decision. Otherwise, the rest of the book is generally well edited. These few mistakes led to the loss of a star in rating. I thus rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Other than a mistake here, and repetition there, the writer actually did a good job on this one. A business guru, or even a dimwit, will benefit from reading Graf’s work.
I recommend this book to anyone who would wish to start a business. Those who already own businesses might learn a thing or two. This is especially so for those that have no time for other activities outside their businesses. A reader of any age might enjoy this book as the English is simple, and its concepts quite understandable. Delightfully, the writer didn’t use unnecessary business jargon and scenarios. Kudos Graf, I enjoyed the flight.
