Bittersweep is a romantic book filled with suspense. Every picture painted by the writer Wareeze Woodson carries the readers to bittersweep, Texas, the setting of the book. The train station down to the boarding house, to the school house and every other location hold really beautiful events.

Elizabeth Campbell is a beautiful lady who comes to town as the new school teacher. She has sad memories of bittersweep as the last events affected her entire life. She is on a quest to find out what happened 15 years ago and at the same time fend for a living. On her arrival, she is saved by a handsome young man. The chairman of the school board Joseph p. Honeycutt, a young bachelor who has many ladies hoping he would notice them seems to have eyes for this mysterious lady. Will the past come back to hunt Elizabeth Campbell? Does this past affect our bachelor?

I find the book so amazing, no scene painted by Wareeze Woodson seem out of place, it all plays out perfectly. Every character for into the book and the setting. It's mysterious how everything and everyone is a suspect. There's no way you as a reader can predict what will happen or what actually happened before the writer unravels the mystery. It's really captivating, you can't stop reading once you've started. If you lack patience, you might end up calculating what should actually happen but the author beats your imagination.

I liked the role of J.P in the book. He is a great man who though has been faced with really tough circumstances refused to give up. He is an independent man who takes responsibility for everyone in town. He is brave and yet compassionate, a beautiful blend. I did like Aunt Maude, from the beginning of the book, she looked the happy woman but with time, you could see how anger and bitterness had eaten into her so much that she didn't see beauty in front of her. She held on to the past so much. Good thing she learnt before the book ended.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 because it had no grammatical or typographical errors. Though it was a romantic book it had no erotic scenes. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good fiction, full of suspense and mysteries. If you lack patience to sit and read till the end then it's not your book. I will be excited to read more of Wareeze Woodson's books.
