Review by Essyshiroh96 -- Killing Abel by Michael Tieman
Killing Abel by Michael Tieman is a biblical novel based on the book of Genesis. The popular story of Adam and Eve is presented differently by the author. He uses his imagination to make the story more interesting.
Adam and Eve were only seven days old when they sinned against their father. Lucifer lured them into eating from the forbidden tree. Lucifer had been given dominion over the Garden of Eden and all of its contents. His job was to provide security for Adam and Eve and to answer questions about their daily life. Before eating the forbidden fruit, they saw Lucifer as a very beautiful angel. After eating the forbidden fruit, their eyes were opened. The ugliness of a beastly looking creature replaced Lucifer's former beauty. They also discovered that they were naked for the first time. After this incident, the good relationship that they had with their father was destroyed. They were driven away from the Garden of Eden.
I was intrigued by how the author beautifully describes the events that took place in the book of Genesis. The story of a loving father and his children is narrated fashionably. The dialogues between characters were interesting and entertaining. The author expounds more on the little information known in the Bible. However, he makes it clear that his work is fictional to a very large extent. He also states that his work should not be used for theology. This piece of information is very crucial to all readers.
The author also incorporated biblical references in this book. The reader can pinpoint the Bible verses from which the story was founded. The reader is also able to identify the fictional and nonfictional parts of the story. The description of the scenes was also done exemplary. I was able to picture everything that happened in the story. I even felt as if I was witnessing every event. The characters were also well-developed and relatable.
I disliked nothing about this book. It was well-edited, entertaining, and adventurous. I only came across very few errors. For this reason, I confidently rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The proper language was used in this book. I didn't find any profanity or erotic scenes in it. I would like to recommend this book to people who like Bible stories. This book provides another interesting perspective of stories found in Genesis. I enjoyed reading this book.
