The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings follows the paths and friendship of four different women brought together by their interest in fly fishing. Rose, Amanda, Veronica, Sophie are from different walks in life and have various goals in life but the friendship that blossoms among them turns them into a family. The differences in age, lifestyle, and personalities are minuscule in comparison to their love for fly fishing and the comfort and growth each of them finds in the group.

The four friends become five one faithful day when Rose, Amanda, Veronica, and Sophie notice a woman floating in the cold river. Her name is Melody and the four women end up rescuing her in more ways than one as Melody finds a home among the four friends. Thus their intertwines stories begin and so does the adventure, the personal growth, and the healing.

I find the characters to be well-written, relatable, and sometimes I found them to be good role-models for young women. They are mature, thoughtful, and work towards improving their shortcomings. There is comradery among the women and that reels in the reader. The five women are a beautiful example of a friend group where people are equal and no one is a leader or a follower.

Throughout the book, there are numerous heartfelt moments, wise advice from one character to another, some tragedy and a lot of personal growth, healing, and triumph in the face of fear. The story hits home often and made me think about my own life, about my past mistakes and my future. I loved that the most about the book. There was nothing I disliked or would want to change.

This though-provoking yet entertaining read would be great for any young woman and I highly recommend it. I imagine many women will see themselves reflected in one of the characters.
The story isn't especially fast-paced or action-filled, so if you are looking for a thrill, I would recommend checking out other titles.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. It was well-edited and I didn't notice any spelling or grammatical errors. The book didn't make the list of my top favorite reads, so I wouldn't give it 4 stars.
