Since I saw the cover and read its title, it really caught my attention. I would rate the novel titled The Hand Bringer written by the author Christopher J. Pennington with a 3 out 4. This book is made up of almost 400 pages, although, it is a fun book to read due to its thorough scenes. I consider the plot to be well-organized, easy to follow and exciting and all of these together is what I have liked the most about this novel.

It is true that nowadays, mostly all have been written about. This book combines both the story of Dracula and timetraveling. It starts with the main character, Peter Hadrian, with his typical working day as a cop and a man in costant grief due to the mysterious loss of his wife and son. Afterwards he is captured by a secret association (ASA: Apocalyctic suppression association) which main target is to fight against mythical creatures. He is used as an experiment of vampirism and as well he is assigned a mission in which he has to go back in time to medieval times in Romania.

The novel's genre is a combination of science fiction, romanticism, fantasy and action. A romantic and somewhat imposible love takes place between Peter and a woman from another time, Boriana. Science fiction and fantasy combines when the secret association studies and wants to erradicate vampirism by travelling back in time to Romania. When the team sent from the present to the past, they have to fight against different armies and that is why I also consider it an action genre novel.

This novel is not for children, there are several sexual and violent scenes thoroughly described. Moreover I can recommend it for older teenangers and above. In p. 64 quotes: "Now undressed, Kolemis genitalia brought apparent buffledment." Another one, in p. 102: "We're not gonna do this in someone else's house! If the two of you wanna throw your dicks out on the table and measure your manhood, do it outside!" In page 117 is decribed how Peter is aroused by seeing the naked body of his lover. In page 177 is also described how Peter and his lover make love. There are many other scenes where are narrated how the characters have sex or are naked. There is also vulgar language in p. 113 when one of the characters says: "C'mon limp dick!". There is another vulgar dialogue in p. 320: "There are rather merciless sons of bitches, and their women --- those horny little nymphs---- are almost alluring". On the other hand, in page 70 is described how a bear bites the head of an officer; in p. 235 is described how a man is brutally tortured and killed with a medieval punishment. Going on to p. 259, it is described how the lover of the main character is almost raped and kidnapped.

As well, the tone and grammar style change throughout the reading due to the alternation of settings: it goes from modern grammar to the old one, where it can be compared between the different dialogues. There are a couple of grammar mistakes or typos throughout the reading; in page 98 all verbs are mostly in past but the verb hurt is not, in p. 118 it is found a typo "et cetera" is correct in italian but not in english, in p. 164 is missing a determinant before flippant commentary and in p. 167 is missing the possessive form of Amenusu home. Another phrase that has a grammar mistake is found in p. 359 "...that he had never before felt.." it should be written the other way around, "...that he had never felt before...".

Despite all of these, it is a great book with a story that has been thought out of the box. I hope to see this book converted into a movie or a tv serie in the future.
