Mixed Blessings is a story about surpassing race as a label and accepting the human spirit. Is race real? Two main characters dominate the story, Michael Kublai Khan and Kimberly Solberg. They are our mirror through which race is reflected. This distinguished C/T/M/H story is told by J.M Muse.

Honorable Kublai Khan uses the church of Jeremiah to execute his plans. He wants his people to live without bias and intimidation. Kimberly Solberg just wants to be cheery with the choice she makes. Kim goes to Juarez, Mexico to find her way while the minister goes to the nation’s capital. It is in Los Angeles where they both challenge racial abhorrence, murder, and chaos. Will these two characters succeed?

The freedom for people to define themselves by their classification is a right and not a privilege. But this right has been neglected, abused, and not provided for. In a dialogue where Kimberly was been interviewed, the US Census Taker asked her whether she was Latino, Hispanic, or of Spanish origin? Does it matter? Don’t we all belong to the one race, the human variety?

The misapprehension that Whites make right is a fallacy! Whether White or Black, God blessed us all with intellectual abilities to make sound decisions and do thoughtful things. The whole power was embodied in the human race but not in specific individuals. Unity is the mother of peace. It protects us from all evil doing. If we all fight racism, we must embrace unity and understand our ultimate responsibility as human beings.

The author seeks to examine the lost right, right for individuals to define themselves by their classification. J.M Muse uses dialogue to bring his points and solicitous themes more vividly to the readers and involves them in this mental debate that examines our roots as of human variety. Sadly in America, race seems to be an indispensable key factor in politics, education, and the quality of life.

I like Kimberly. Although she carries on through a lot, her fancy and hunt for a sense of belonging are commendable. Getting along with all these menaces requires a strong will and a spirit. She’s pertinacious and her rational desire to unite the human race is enormous. She’s a character to echo.

The character I liked least was Hermando. This guy is ruthless. He belongs to a chaotic gang in Mexico and he orders the execution of Jorge. He has no feeling for mercy and is a murderer.

The book, Mixed Blessings deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 stars . The book is professionally edited and I only found some minor errors. The language used is colorful and the author has employed a good deal of humor. This makes the book so capturing. Characters fit well in the plot and the plot flows smoothly. If I were the author, I would only have one aspect changed, the book title so that it's called " War of the Race." The book is appealing to those who like a well-edited book of fiction. Anyone would love reading this book. You will thank me for the recommendation.
