East Wind, 2nd edition by Jack Winnick is a book about two fictional federal agents whose paths cross during a hunt for terrorists within the U.S. Uri is an Israeli agent from a secret branch of the Mossad. Lara is a talented codebreaker for the United States. The text follows Uri and Lara, as well as a few individual terrorists who are plotting an attack in the states. At first glance, East Wind, 2nd edition appears to be a typical right-leaning political statement with a clear emphasis on the importance of military intelligence and a small helping of romance. However, as the reader continues on, each side of the story unfolds.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The text itself is fairly easy to read, with some terms requiring a brief internet search. Jack Winnick did a service to the reader by peppering the text with some uncommon vocabulary. The addition of such vocabulary allows the reader to expand his or her own knowledge. Winnick’s book is engaging and immersive. Personally, I often lost track of time while reading. My favorite part of the book was the storylines from different characters that ended up becoming one. In the beginning, the switching between characters and settings was mildly confusing. As the plot advanced, it became increasingly clearer that each story had a purpose.

However, a good product does not come completely flaw-free. There were plenty of grammatical errors in the text, mostly missing punctuation and a few misspellings. Aside from this, I detected no discrepancies in the plot itself. What I disliked most about the book was the bits where nothing but intelligence was discussed. Most of the text was intriguing, but I became a little lost in my thoughts when the conversations about intelligence came up throughout the story. This is my reasoning for the rating.

This book is aimed at an older conservative audience. The first sign of gore is in the prologue. There are also several instances of swearing, maybe about six total. The story is mainly told from an obvious right-wing point of view. There were also brief sexual descriptions and scenes. This book is definitely not for children.

Overall, the plot of this book was thought out well. The characters each have a unique backstory and motives, as well as personalities. However, grammatical errors are bountiful, albeit minor. I will definitely take a look at the next book in the series.
