The Fat Lady's Low, Sad Song by Brian Kaufman is a book about a baseball player, Parker Westfall. A minor league baseball player facing a crossroad in his career. He had hopes to turn his career around and believes to catch up after he gets a call to play for the majors although, he got signed at the last minutes by an independent league team in the minors “Fort Collins Miners.”

The author places emphasis on Parker Westfall's lifestyles and some of his secrets. A baseball player who is always on the road, changing leagues and changing teams. He makes a few grands a month. His lifestyle of always on the move, makes him a bad marriage material. He meets women in bars, keeping company with the ones who only want to enjoy life. However, a female pitcher named Courtney Morgan was introduced to the Miners. She is a knuckle ball pitcher who shows great promise and hard work, but because she follows the instruction of her coach strictly; she began to struggle. Parker came up to her to help, yet she was resistant at first. Hence, Parker and Courtney later worked together and developed on their skills.

This story is more than about baseball, it's about team spirit, helping a fellow teammate, pursuing a dream and defeating the odds. Parker Westfall played a significant role in helping his team positively. I must confess, I am not a baseball fan, yet I appreciate this book. I was drawn in by the realistic characters, the beauty of the game, the humor, and the increasing tension in the story. The question is, will the Miners triumph during an unusual season? And will Parker and Courtney become more than friends?

Reading this book has made me gain insightful knowledge about baseball as a sport. It's a good game that shows interactions between opponents and teammates, and interactions with teammates connecting with fans. Readers will also discover the true beauty of this book. That is, each person involved in a baseball team will have his or her own stories and contributions to the overall success or failure of that team. More so, one of the lessons to gain from this story is about the power of team-spirit and the grace of age. It's about the pain of wanting something so badly that you live in denial of your chances of ever getting it. It's about unlikely but necessary friendships.

What I liked most about this book is its suspense, it also educates about friendship and team spirit. The book took me by total surprise and I couldn't stop reading it till I got to the end. There was nothing to dislike about this book. I hail the author for a job well done. As a lover of sport, I enjoyed every minute of my time reading this book.

Overall, I enjoyed reading The Fat Lady's Low, Sad Song. I could hardly put the book down when I started reading. It has a very satisfying conclusion. This book was professionally edited, and I did not find any errors. As a result, I have the pleasure of rating this book four out of four stars. I will recommend this book to sport lovers, basically baseball fans who love to read. This book is a mandatory read for you.

Where then did the fat lady and sad songs come from. I find it hard to reconcile the book's name with the content. But great story anyway and beautiful review.
