Beneath the Muscle by Lauren Powers is a novel about success, failures in life, lessons of the famous bodybuilder, aspiring actress, and a superhero in the eyes of the children.

This novel is remarkable because the author describes the struggles she had throughout her life. How hard was her life path, and what kind of challenges she needed to face with. She reminds us that the family is the most important, and without their help sometimes we can't succeed. It’s good to see that she tells the readers about the divorce of her parents. When she was three years old she and her mother moved to her grandparents. It's motivating how she started with bodybuilding, that by watching weightlifters on the beach she admired them and wanted to be like them.

Lauren succeeds to take a degree at the University of Hawaii, and she manages her own business. She has overcome the prejudice in male-dominated fields like: firefighting, skateboarding, and bodybuilding. And mastered at ballroom dancing, yoga, writing, and a successful wedding planner at Weddings by the Sea as a CEO. It's motivating to see how hard she tried to become a firefighter. How much ups and downs she had, and that she had to take fourteen times the Biddle test just to become a firefighter. After she pass the Biddle test, she works with many women, helping them to prepare for the test and coaching them to find their inner and outer strength. Lauren is known as no quieter, and she shows that to the readers. Also, she advises us to try new things, to take risks and discover in which field we are good.

At one moment she is on the wrong path, trying alcohol and drugs, but after one big party, she searches for help from a person who is close to her mother. It's good to see that she realized what could happen if she continues that path. Having support from family to get away from these "junks" is such a blessing. To be different it's not bad at all, it’s unique. And if we are insulted or bullied, we need to accept that with a smile, without arguing with them. She encourages the readers to have self-confidence, get back on feet no matter how much you fall, and pass every obstacle they have on their way.

I love that the author included quotes and images. Images from the persons that helped her through her life. I loved the quote from Chapter 7: "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” And the workbook given after every chapter. I enjoyed reading the book, it's my first book that I read about bodybuilding, and I am thrilled, I can't describe how much I love it and it took my attention.

There is nothing I disliked in the book. The book is well- written, I like the writing style of the author and I did not found any grammatical or punctuation error.

Therefore, I rate Beneath The Muscle by Lauren Powers with big 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this amazing book to everyone that doesn't have self-confidence, who needs the motivation to try something new and who has a hard life path.

This sounds like a very inspiring book that tells us that, with family support, hard work and determination, one can accomplish almost anything they set their mind to. Thanks for a very interesting and informative review!

I fully concur with Powers that family is the most important, and without their help sometimes we can't succeed. The story of her life sounds very inspirational. Thanks for the insightful review.
