Korian: The Manian's Spear is a fantasy novel by Giorgio Garofalo. It takes us directly to Enduro. Enduro is a planet inhabited by creatures that are taller than the normal humans and have an extra claw-like extension on their hands. The creatures are identified as Ruids and they lead peaceful lives, free from hatred and jealousy by nature. Their lives are disrupted when an unknown body lands, causing sickness and their existence is long forgotten until Doric is born in Brackens Town.

This book highlights the consequences of hate and disruption. The humans and Ruids fail to get along resulting into war and disharmony. Terrifying creatures also invade making the situation much worse as they destroy everything on their way. This forces the Ruids and the humans to come together for ideas and for common peace.

This book has an interesting plot and starts by introducing us to Enduro and it's firstling, Doric. Doric curiously walks into the forbidden zone and all of a sudden a creature called skine appears. He recognizes this creature from his father's stories and he does what the story cautioned in case of an encounter with skine. He closes his eyes hoping that skine will not see him but unfortunately skine attacks him leaving him injured. This leaves him unconscious and when he later wakes up, his wounds are nowhere to be seen. He narrates the events to his father, Seth and he thinks that this is another one of Doric's imagination. What he doesn't know that is that his son is destined for a great mission.

The author tells this tale vividly, incorporating mystic beings and mythology. Doric and his kind always believe in and pray to Samjees who's the god of all gods. The detailed descriptions in the narratives are well-written and aid in visuals. The characters are introduced so well and their development is also nicely done. There are also imaginary characters like Thane, who's role is to guide Doric in fetching the truth. Crogan also keeps Doric's sanity.

This story is really interesting but I felt that the author is not well polished. Many sentences are segmented, interfering with the tension-building effect that complex sentences give. There are also misplaced commas and poorly constructed sentences here and there that affect comprehension. The characters are also too many to memorize.

The pacing is slow and getting hooked into the action took so long. There are also errors in grammar which makes to me settle for a 2 out of 4 stars. Another round of professional editing will do it good. It's still worth a shot though. I recommend it to readers of dark fantasy novels.

I totally agree. A nice plot but the story is slow paced.
