[Following is a volunteer review of "Opaque" by Calix Leigh-Reign.]
Calix Leigh–Reign with her book ‘Opaque’ which is the begging of the ‘Saga’ series took us on a journey full of secret and adventure. After finishing this book, you are so interested in this book that you want to buy the next book from this series right away.
The main character in this story is 16-years-olds Adam. He is always in his thoughts and we also get the feeling that he is more of a lonely person than someone who is searching for friends. What is very unexpected about his character is that right at the beginning of the book we notice that Adam is sexually attracted to his mother and he adores her deeply. That is why he does not have a good relationship with his father. That makes this story even more unexpected but also interesting because we want to know what is going to happen next.
Suddenly a new student joins Adam’s school - Carly. She is a beautiful girl who recently moved to a new city. And when she introduces herself to Adam we notice that she is more open to people than Adam. They are both intro adventures and that makes their relationship so special. With her help and a new group of friends Adam starts to understand why he has always felt so different from any other teenager. At this point Adams's life has changed. He discovered a new world full of surprises, friendship, adventure, love, and trust.
What I really liked in this book is that there are so many twists and unexpected situations. You are never prepared for what is coming to you. I also really enjoyed the relationship between Adam and Carly. Right from the beginning I was very interested in where this relationship is going and what will happen next.
What I did not really like was an unexpected story about a local girl. It made me question the book and what it really is about. I also did not understand the relationship between Adam and his mother. However it was really interesting what will happen next in this relationship.
I would definitely give this book 3/4 stars. I truly love books with secrets, adventure and twists. And this book matches my expectations. It is also important to mention that in this book are some difficult word but for my that make this book even more interesting. Calix Leight-Reign book is definitely for young adult because of relationship between Adam and his mother and because of the story of local girl. I really enjoyed reading this book and I would definitely recommend it to young adults that are searching for good book with twist, adventure and secrets.
