Jorge P. Newbery delivers an inspirational story in Burn Zones: Playing Life’s Bad Hands. This book takes the reader on a journey through life’s tribulations that Jorge was faced with since the day he started working. Though he experienced troubling times, he also describes achieving a great deal of success as an entrepreneur.

Since he was a young boy, he had an inner drive that I found to be admirable. His first job was as a newspaper delivery boy, until he saved enough money to purchase an ice cream tricycle. He exercised his negotiation skills upon buying the tricycle, and went on to make a nice profit starting his own business. I was impressed to read how someone who dropped out of high school could pick up skills that took me years to learn.

His definition of a burn zone is very philosophical. Reading about his cycling career, I realized just how successful he was in life even with the trials he came across. Each person has a certain level of perseverance and when I think about this autobiography his perseverance is the first thing that comes to mind. Even when he falls into debt adding up to millions of dollars caused by a natural disaster destroying his real-estate business, you can’t help but remain positive with his optimism. What I like the most about this book is the frame of mind it gave me as I read it through to the end. It helped me to focus on the good that comes along with the bad, even if it takes some time to appear.

I found this book to be very well edited, I did not come across any errors. My rating for this book is 3 out of 4 stars. Though the story is encouraging, I felt a longing to learn about his history more in depth on a personal level. I wonder how he felt working so hard at such a young age. I also wonder where his drive came from. The questions that lingered when I finished reading is what I disliked most about this book.

This is a story that everyone could benefit from reading. It helps to shape how to take a bad situation and turn it into a lesson. Life can throw some disadvantages our way and how we react will determine how fast we bounce back. I would share this book with those who are currently experiencing difficult times. I would reference it as giving hope to someone else.
