The Legacy of Job's Wife by Cynthia Koelker is a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I liked most how the author was able to bring to life the untold parts of the famous story of Job from the Bible. As a Christian I have heard and read the story of Job since I was a child. Job is often the story I turn to when I face times of hardship in my life.

This story is not told from Job's perspective but rather his wife's. Job's wife, Ix'ises, story does not only tell of the main event but includes her whole life. We get to watch Ix'ises grow from an infant to an adult and then become Job's wife. During this time we are able to witness Ix'ises innocence when she was a child as well as know what it was like to live in that ancient time period. Job is beside Ix'ises from birth to death. Through this time Ix'ises tries to understand the god Job worships and why God allows bad things to happen. Watching these characters grow physically and spiritually was an amazing experience.

The only thing I disliked most was how the timeline is not accurately portrayed. Job and Ix'ises lived for a long time in this book. The Bible does say that Job lived an unusual long time but did not mention his wife. This story is fiction so it does not have to match everything in the Bible. The part that does not make total sense is that if Job and Ix'ises were blessed with a second youth how is it possible their friends and even certain relatives live just as long. Though this book is fiction I expected more accuracy with characters ages since there are many other events included such as places, events, and names that are accurate.

I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. The story was great. The author did a wonderful job weaving this fictional story into the biblical story of Job. There was always some sort of exciting or tragic event happening throughout the entire book. This book was also exceptionally well-edited. The more books I read the more I come to appreciate authors and publishers who take the time and make the effort to have their book professionally edited.

This book is about the missing parts in a Bible story and would be enjoyed most by Christians. This would be a great read for any age though it might be more entertaining for young readers and up. There are no erotic scenes or curse words in this book. The story is told from a woman's perspective and would probably be preferred by women. It is a Christian book but also fiction therefore if you only like factual Christian material this may not be for you. It holds Christian values but should not be regarded as biblical fact. I highly recommend this book.
