House of Eire by June Gillam is the third book of the suspense-thriller Hillary Broome series. Hillary is a ghostwriter and lives in California with her husband Ed, daughter Claire and mother-like friend Sarah. Hillary’s mother left her when she was just 10 years old. She always gets weird dreams whenever she is stressed and connects these dreams with her mother. To put stop on these nightmares, she plans to dig more into her Irish roots, and plans a trip to Ireland. On the other hand, in Ireland, there is a businessman named Dermot who wants to build an amusement park. The only obstacle in his way is a woman named Bridget, who demands for a memorial to be built in coexistence with the park to honor the lives lost during the Great Famine. What unfolds next in this captivating suspense-thriller is worth reading.

I loved reading this book. It was fast-paced and full of suspense and mystery. Especially, the latter part of the book where every single page was full of twists and turns. I got to learn a lot about Irish history, and the struggles of Irish people during the Great Famine. I was appalled to read about the consequences of Great Famine on the Irish people. Inclusion of ghost stories, and the poems from the famous Irish poet W. B. Yeats made it even more interesting to read.

I liked almost all the character in this book. In my opinion, they were all very well crafted and played their part quite well. Hillary was an over-thinker and always lived in the past comparing her parenting style with her mother’s. Claire was the perfect mix of intelligence and humor. Her reactions to the circumstances were quite funny, and exactly fit for a child her age. I liked the character of Bridget a lot. She was an independent and determined woman who stood for her cause despite getting life-threatening warnings.

I liked everything about this book and would gladly give this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book seems to be professionally edited as I could not find any errors while reading the book. However, I do not agree with the claims of this book being a standalone, as there were so many things about Hillary's past I had no idea of. So, it would have been better if I had read the first two books of the series. And after finishing this book, I was even more curious to read the next part of the series, as there were so many things left unfinished in this one. Other than that, it is a perfect read for the fans of suspense-thriller stories. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
