Are Your Kids Naked Online? How to protect your tech-savvy kids from online self-destruction outlines many dangers that lurk through our favorite devices, from online predators and black markets of dark web, to social media and video game addiction. It also gives detailed advice on how to protect the children from these dangers. Apart from technical advice, the book provides clever, well thought-out parenting advice, coming from the parenting experience of the authors, as they are parents of four kids themselves.

Chris and Lisa Good collected the material for the book through years of working in IT security. They give examples of situations in which their clients reached out to them, asking for advice after their children had found themselves in an uncomfortable situation following their own, or someone else’s actions online. They shed light on how common these issues are, and how no one should think their children are protected without actively making sure they are.

All data mentioned in the text is referenced, and reader can look up where do the statistics that the authors talk about come from. I am not sure if the book was professionally edited, as it has a very conversational tone. It reads as if these experts are talking directly to you, urging you to pay attention to this important matter. It only has a few minor typos. I personally liked the style a lot and read the whole book in one sitting. It would be wonderful if they mentioned even more of what they encounter in their line of work, but I guess it is now up to me to research further. The book motivated me to do so.

The world has changed. Technology is here to stay, and we must educate ourselves on how to use it safely and protect ourselves from the ones who abuse it. No responsible person should skip this, if they use technology in any way. No responsible parent should skip this, if they are to learn how to protect their family. Children are vulnerable, and people are connected more than ever.

Reading this book gave me a clearer picture on what parents can do to ensure the safety of their kids, and there is a lot to be done. Not only would I recommend this book to parents, but to everyone. Children should read it as well, to get a better idea of why we need them to be careful and responsible. They should understand why tech leaders make sure that their children live far from the product they sell. I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars.
