The Altitude Journals, by David Mauro is an excellent read, and parts of this story will be with me forever. I couldn’t wait to read more, and was genuinely sad when I had reached the end. I would score this book a perfect 4 out of 4.

David Mauro tells his unlikely story of climbing to the top of each continent, and the personal lesson he learned at each peak. His story is the perfect combination of human grit, determination, humor, rebirth, love, adventure, listening, and embracing who you are, and what you can become.

The thing I liked most about this book was how it felt I was there on the journey with the author. He does wonderful with the description, so you really feel you are there on the mountain, and learning valuable lessons right along with him. I found myself feeling heartbroken, hopeful, in love, and light-headed right along with him. I even teared up a little when his fish died. I can find no fault in this story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good read. I believe fellow adventurers, and those who like a challenge would especially like this book. Also those who, like me, like to experience amazing feats vicariously through others.

I love the way good books can change the way you see the world completely. That is what this book has done for me. My perspective on life has altered since reading David Mauro’s story. You may have no interest in mountain climbing, or maybe you have no idea what crampons are, but if you have ever had to start over, deal with family and friend relationships, or just can’t silence that little voice telling you to reach out and try, then this book is for you.
