“Finding A Job in Tough Times” by Dr. Tim Johnson is a practical piece. As the title suggests, its pages give the tools needed to find a job and guidance in the ‘know yourself’ path, which is appropriate if you are having a hard time trying to find stability in your life. This is not a book that can be skimmed, the book exercises need time and thought. “Workbook” can be an accurate depiction of it; it starts with instructions about the book exercises and the utilizable pages.

The author specifies right from the start that this is a brief book, the concepts presented need to be applied immediately; being vague would make the reading a waste of time. The book is ordered by different sections, each one dedicated to one stage of life and self-knowledge. Reading this piece will require you to think about your past, your childhood and the bad experiences you have had; it gives you the opportunity to analyze those negative memories and overcome them, that is why the principles presented apply to find a job or to get a promotion.

The best aspect is that every single activity in this book has its application in the real world. There’s no verbiage or unnecessary words. Knowing who you are and what you have been through is not only convenient for a job, but for any spectrum of activity in life; having certainty that your past does not set a precedent for your future is a relief and it liberates you from a heavy load.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because a few grammar mistakes can be found, no profane language included and the style of the author is simple and direct. The book always invites you to share your experiences and to be prepared for questions in a real interview, but it does not only describe the actual process that people go through in finding a regular job, it actually pushes you to start dreaming about something better that can be suitable for you.

This is a great piece for anyone eager to work in self-improvement, that’s having a hard time in life, that needs to order their thoughts and sort out their lives. I would recommend it to young graduates that are eager to start in the work field, that have little experience or are having a tough time finding an adequate job to suit their aspirations.
