This is book four in The Inspector Sheehan Murders series. Jim Sheehan and his team are enlisted again to solve another murder. This killer is unlike any other they have encountered before. His modus operandi is unique and brutal. It is also characterized by blog posts he publishes on the Dark Web glorifying his deeds.

The story begins in a scene that I would term typical of most male prisons. Present-day, Judge Trevor Neeson is found murdered in his residence. Inspector Sheehan and his team are assigned to the case. The ferocity of the murder and the method of display of the victim reveal this to be more than just an ordinary murder. The team is caught in a race to chase all possible leads. The killer's blog foretells of more victims. The clock is ticking as the detectives try to figure out the evidence before them.

The Dark Web Murders by Brian O’Hare is a high paced murder mystery. It is a case within a case. The first murder opens a door to reveal crimes being perpetrated by the rich and powerful in a high-end club. Inspector Sheehan and his team are thrust into the depths of the Dark Web as they try to understand the killer’s motives. A psychopath sets out a clear path to mete out his justice on those on his list.

Murder mysteries always make for an entertaining read. The most crucial thing about these types of stories is making it hard to figure out who the killer is. Brian O’Hare does it with ease. He was able to unravel the story and the clues in a great way. Each chapter heightened your desire to know more. It felt like you were involved in solving the case alongside Sheehan’s team. Every character was unique and added to make the story more dynamic. Despite not having read the other books, it was easy to follow along with the characters and their stories.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book was well written and edited. The story unravels at a great pace. There was a wide array of police procedures, and investigative techniques detailed in the book. This showed that the author was well versed in what he was writing about. The book can be easily read as a stand-alone. There were some clues that were glaringly obvious, but I don’t know if the author did it on purpose. These kinds of situations I found to be a little bit humorous.

I would recommend this book, first to anyone who loves murder mysteries. It definitely makes you want to find more of the author’s books. Then, I would recommend it to everyone else. It was an amazing read. However, it does contain some goriness and adult themes, so it’s not appropriate for anyone below the age of 18. It may not appeal to anyone squeamish about the dark and grisly.
