The Neighbour at Number 18 just after reading the title I began pondering of the mystery the neighbour in question had brought to the neighbours. The title alone got my attention I scrolled to see other books but I was still thinking of The Neighbour at Number 18 so I made up my mind and went for it, to satisfy my curiosity.

In the early pages of the book, Hawa Crickmore, brings out the difficulties that are encountered by single female parents in raising up and caring for their children. Brenda, maria's mother and maureen her friend struggled to raise their children. The two parents were also faced with emotional challenges but were very careful on how they presented themselves to the children, not to expose themselves. Maria became fond of Emilia Maureen's daughter due to their parents friendship. Maria was exposed to Tyler, Emilia's cousin, a womaniser who now had interest for little girls based on the assumption that if his cousin was able to have an affair with her mother's fiance who at the moment was living in the same house and she was just about 15 a teenager.Emilia brought her friend Maria,to her cousin Tyler who was an adults and working to satisfy his lustful desire on teenagers. Tyler showed Maria how to kiss and he made sure he gave her the first kiss which she will never forgot. This relationship brought disturbances to the family relation that hand existed before.

Time past and Tyler was in jail for his actions and Maria who was the main character made it big in the law profession at the time when women were not considered for entry in the profession. Even at this time she remembered what Tyler had taught her and fancied the experience, she wanted it to continue but the law could not allow. He was her first love but he was labeled as molester so she kept it to herself. She went on and married to lovely, trusted man who eventually cheated on with the neighbour. It was something she would not believe but she went on with the marriage. Maria made her husband do what she learnt from her lover without him knowing until she suffered from vascular dementia. She confessed that Tyler was the love of her life and not Ron, her husband, to his face.

Hawa Crickmore brought a very good story in the book. She exposed certain challenges that single parents encounter especially women. The book also showed how girls fall prey to hungry lustful men and in the way it happens. The book vividly expressed the feelings behind every statement that was said or an action that had an emotion or attitude attached to it hence made it possible to understand in what state did things happened. It also makes the reader visualize the actions and be part of it. The author also used many grammatical words that I think would be helpful to someone who like knowing new words.

However, the book lacks professional editing. It contains a lot of flaws, profane language and erotic scenes. The first instance of profanity was on page number 34, line 3. The book has simple mistakes such as preposition and misnaming of people in an action or an event.Having said the above, I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars because of its poor editing and consistently missing peoples names together with their prepositions. I therefore recommend an age limit in accessing the book. The most appropriate readers could be adults, teachers and parents. In oder to present to then problems that girls face in schools and the solution that were used in the book to remedy the situation.
