The human mind is a complex organ that is capable of very wild imaginations. We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End by Matthew Tysz is a spectacular book. It is the third novel in the ‘We are Voulhire’ series. It contains the theme of friendship, dark magic, and betrayal.
Can the Emperor of Lullabies be defeated? The king, Wilhelm is torn between protecting his people against external forces and doing what is morally upright. The Emperor of Lullabies is indeed powerful. He and his entire race can bend the cosmos to do their will. He forcefully controls the affairs of the people in the Lands of the Princes despite that they have their kings, chiefs, and sub-chiefs. In the case that the Voulhirian king chooses to go with the augments of the humanitarians who think accepting the refugees is the right things to do; how will the emperor take it? Will there indeed be grievous consequences as speculated? The story unfolds in the king's palace. A debate has been called on whether to welcome the refugees from the Lands of the Princes or not.
Matthew Tysz let us into his world of fantasy in this epic novel. Unlike most books, each of the chapters bears the name of the chapter's main character. I like the friendship that exists between Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius. The plot is very detailed and logical. Also, the characters are well-developed. The author's writing method is easy to understand. The book is also professionally edited. I only noted minor spelling errors while reading it. The errors were too insignificant to prevent me from enjoying the book.
The chapters are 'stand-alone' and only began to converge into a whole story towards the middle of the book. Patience and good imaginative skills are important for the complete enjoyment of this novel. Also, the book was a bit boring at the start. Although in fairness to the author, most books are usually boring and slow-paced at the start. The author did a good job of building up the reader's interest. However, it would have been nice to see more of Galen, like him changing the entire course of his people narrative.
I rate We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End 3 out 4 stars. I deducted 1 star because of the reasons that I mentioned above. I enjoyed reading this entertaining piece. Thus, I recommend it to fans of Sci-Fi and dark magic novels.
