As we, human beings, move forward in our lives, we come to learn and disprove fallacies we’ve believed our entire life. Did you know that generally speaking, bottled water is not safer than tap water? Or were you aware of the ad tactics drug companies use in order to sell their overpriced medications to guarantee their income, but just possibly help your medical condition? Or how an American Heart Association Journal generated a study that shows how men who skip breakfast were proven to have a 27% higher risk of heart disease? This is Morton E. Travel’s world, where myths are debunked, misinformation is unveiled, and statements are backed up with facts.
Although, personally, I am not a fan of nonfiction books, I found this one to be truly interesting. The reader gets to analyze several studies to come to a certain conclusion. In his introduction, he explains how to the book is divided into three parts: Tips, about health the reader can incorporate, Myths, the misconceptions we’ve all had, and Tricks, strategies corporations have used to take your money in exchange of reckless products. To follow a similar format, this book review will consist of three different parts, regarding the book’s different parts.
In the introduction, Morton E. Travel tries to not only summarize his book’s components, but he creates a brief dialogue with his audience. In page i, Travel specifically states, “I have tried to create all chapters to contain some helpful information for as wide an audience as possible.” After reading this book, I have realized this statement is true. It is a great fit for anyone who is interested in switching to a healthier lifestyle. The introduction was very informative and straightforward.
The first part consisted of Health Tips. The tips consisted of tips to enhance health with the research. I don’t have much to say; I only believe this first part was very informative and engaging. I try my best to make these tips applicable to my life. The second part consisted of Health Myths, which mostly shows the common misconceptions about people’s health. Although I got to change some habits that regarded these myths, I personally believe some myths should have a bit of more research in order to create a well defined and scientifically-based conclusion. The third and last part consisted of the Tricks, or as I liked to view them, “shortcuts”, that try to help other people find easier ways to improve their health. This section was so good, that I wanted more! I’m satisfied with everything I learned.
Overall, the book was great. I personally rate Health Tips, Myths, And Tricks 3 out of 4 stars. It is entertaining, informative, and engaging, which proves the book to deserve a higher rating than a two. On the other hand, the tone of a book got a bit monotonous after several chapters into it. Because it is a nonfiction book, it is expected to keep it steady and professional; nevertheless, the narration was kept constant. Overall, the book was informative, unbiased, and humorous. I can’t wait to discover more Morton E. Travel’s novels!
