GRINGO: My Life on the Edge as an International Fugitive is a memoir that tells the story of Dan “Tito” Davis as told by Peter Conti. The book is dedicated to his mother Marcelleen Davis and sponsor Marlyn Erickson.

The story began with Dan who was at a pivotal time in his life, running from the long arm of the law. He was standing on a platform waiting for a train; as he boarded the train, it would be like opening another portal to a new dimension in his life.

The writer then goes on telling the story of Dan running from the law. On this run, he traveled to different countries in order to stay ahead of the long arm of justice. In order to blend in, he had to learn the language and soaked up the atmosphere which would enable him to relate to the people in each area that he traveled. He not only told of the reason he was in such a country, but he also gave a vivid description of each place he was in.

Dan is painted as a hard worker who sought to make a living off different ventures that he started. Coming from a background that was not affluent he desired to improve his life financially. This desire led to his starting his first questionable source of income. He experienced many failures and setbacks, but he was always willing to try a new way to make a living. Though these ventures were always on the wrong side of the law, he was not deterred by the obstacles.

The one thing that I like most about the book is Dan was always thinking about his family. Whether he was on the run or in prison his family was at the forefront of his mind. In many instances, he mentions thinking about his mother who he had not seen because he was on the run.

The one thing I dislike most about the book was it was character filled and you had to keep up with the different characters as they emerged from the woodwork. I am happy to rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The editing was done correctly, with no errors that I encountered. I highly recommend this book for men and women who would like to read about someone on the run. There is nothing graphic about the book, but it contains adult language which does not makes it suitable for children to read
