Sigfried’s Smelly Socks! by Len Foley is a children's picture book centred on smell, or more specifically, disgusting smells. It follows the character of Sigfried as he tries to identify what's causing the horrible smell coming from his book.

As he tries to find the cause of the smell, the reader is taken through each page of Sigfried's book and shown what could potentially be causing the putridity. From old pizza used as a bookmark to dog pee, this book has all the disgusting horrors anyone could think of, with some pages even having two different variations.

The book is very easy to read as the style even has a rhyme to it as well as a rhythm. I think it would be perfect for parents who enjoy reading to their kids as it calls for many tone changes, facial expressions and sound effects.

I really enjoyed the illustrations as they brought the whole story to life and made it seem even more silly and disgusting. The actual items causing the smell were real images, which I found to be quite gross, but I'm sure little kids would love that aspect of it.

As for the point behind the book or the morale of it, I don't think there really was one, other than showing that people shouldn't be messy as it will smell. I think it was just one of those books that are made to be laughed at and forgotten about. It didn't teach any valuable life lessons or anything. It was just hilarious from start to finish.

I am giving this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars as I really enjoyed it, but I felt that it lacked meaning. I also found two grammatical errors, one of which I think would've been very easy to avoid if the author had just used the full word instead of an abbreviation. Other than that though, I truly enjoyed this picture book and would recommend it to both young children and their parents as it's a lot of fun and will have everyone in fits of both laughter and disgust.

While I do think that messages in children's books are important, fun is also a vital aspect. This seems to have the latter, which is just perfect for a light afternoon. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the nice, enthralling and very objective review. I am saddened that the book does not contain any meaning or the possibility that the meaning may actually be subtle.

I read this book and I have to agree with you about it not giving a moral. It's a fun book, if you can find gross things to be silly. Anyway, thanks for the interesting review.

Quite an interesting review on a children's book about smell. I think it will teach on the value of being responsible.

I agree with this being a humorous book that is fun to read to small children. Maybe they could just learn to pick up their socks! I enjoyed your review. Thanks.

I'm not sure I would read this to my kids because of the real pictures. I might not be able to look at them myself! Thank you for your review!

While they are real images they aren't as graphic as I may have made them out to be. But it's true that some people just don't have the stomach for it. Thanks for stopping by. :tiphat:
