Why can't Johnny just quit?:
It is not a story book , it is the educational and a common sense guide to understand addiction and how we can prevent ourselves from it by Kyle Oh, MD.The addiction he talked about in this book is drugs addiction , the old age problem in our families, communities and all over the world.
The author is a doctor by professional, a specialist of physical medicine and rehabilitation. What made him to learn and write about the drugs addiction came along way back with full sense of emotional story on his career that made him dedicated himself finding the unanswered questions on addiction. Because of his mistakes he made from his career while he was treating patients with pain , he scarified to learn about addiction a lot more enough to thoroughly understand it so as not to repeat the same mistakes, eventually he became a master of addiction and the treatments.
I find him very amazing person for the hard and great work he did that changed and made him give more significant and better treat to his patients. The other most big thing is when he wrote this book to pass the best knowledge to his society and the whole world. His dedication on his professional and society, and his true emotional story from the introduction of the book , made me need to read the book anyway and anyhow until I finished it. He made it clear why he wrote the introduction "I wrote this book for three reasons:
- to redefine addiction in a way that finally makes sense of this often misunderstood subject - by making sense of addiction, help those who suffer
from this disease learn how to get it
under control - and by understanding addiction and why it happens to some, help prevent many others from getting hooked in the first place"
The main theme of the book is understanding addiction, how we can prevent ourselves from and clear our minds from existing misconception about it. The book has got 17 chapters from which the author used chapter 1 to 8 addressing the society ( families , patients and physician who treat addictions) steps by step about addiction , how it starts and how can it be prevented before it happens. On the rest of the chapters he explains the drugs causing addiction, the extent, prevention and the treatment .He explained all common drugs used in the society starting alcoholism, Opiate, Pain medication, marijuana, etc.
The book is very potential to all people in the world , it is must read especially to all heads of families ( parents) , patients ( addicts) and physician ( who treatment addiction). If you read it today , you will be able to prevent and help your own family, friends and other people. It is best book for counseling and care.It can be used in even in rehabilitation centers.
I give the rate 4 out of 4 to the book. You will be amazed how this book is after reading, so many things that we think we know about addiction are on the contrary. Do you understand why others got addicted and others not? Do you know how can you prevent yourself from addiction? " SO WHY CAN'T JOHNNY JUST QUIT? . This is a question family members often ask about their loved ones whom I have treat for addiction. To answer this question, one must understand what addiction is, why some people get hooked while most don’t, and what happens in the brain as addiction sets in that makes those who are addicted follow such self-destructive behaviors that often baffle common sense." this from the author was like the trigger for me to read the book. Now I am happy I got all the answers .
