Twisted Threads by Kaylin McFarren is an action thriller that revolves around Akira Sato and her mission to become free and start life afresh. This book is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat as you get sucked into a world of suspense, crime, love, murder, etc.
Akira, a geisha, was pulled into the life of an assassin by the Zakura-Kai gang. They kidnapped Oki San, an old woman who practically raised her, in order to control her to do their bidding. Keiko, sister of Mitsui-San who is the leader of the gang, gets murdered in Mexico. Akira is placed on a final assignment to identify the murderers and kill them. If she succeeds, she will gain her freedom to live in any part of the world except Japan. To accomplish her mission, she is sent to join a boat cruise that lasts for 10 days. The suspects, Sara, and Paul Lyons are part of the passengers on board. Will she be able to identify the real culprit? Will she gain her freedom? Will she be able to surpass the hurdles that rise up against her?
Twisted Threads happens to be the fourth book in the Thread series, but I believe it stands alone. The name of the book suits it because there are many twists and turns in the plot. The tides kept on changing and the three characters I suspected at different points in the story, turned out to be innocent of the crime.
I believe the author did a terrific job with this book because I didn’t find anything lacking. She took her time to develop the characters, so you can relate to them. I enjoyed the book a little too much because it is so realistic and laced with humor that kept me laughing.
I particularly liked Akira’s character. You could tell she struggled with killing because she had to take pills to numb her senses. She could have killed the initial suspects and ran through the gates of freedom, but she chose to find out who the real killer was. That alone made me her fan. There was nothing I didn’t like about the book, as the author tied all the loose ends.
The editing of this book is a breath of fresh air because I didn’t find any error. This alone, made it exciting to read as it contributed to the author’s flawless writing. Bearing this in mind and all I have mentioned above, I gladly rate Twisted Threads 4 out of 4 stars. It is obviously written by an author who knows her onions.
I recommend this exceptional read to lovers of action and romance. You are sure to be entertained, as you will be hooked from start to finish. If you do not like books with explicit sexual contents, this is not the book for you!
