The image can't do it justice; the gold parts shine and the blue has a kind of quilted feel. It's probably my favourite :)

You know how people say, "Don't judge a book by its cover?"

"Why not?" I boldly ask.

One of my authors had a cover reveal

Not my favorite cover, but still pretty, and you get a little bit of what to expect with that spike

I do like the contrast between the bright flower, and the fuzzy background...

Very pretty, yet deadly!

Kind of reminds me of this cover of a book by Jerry B. Jenkins.

I love the art for Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments and the simple covers on the Barnes and Noble Classics. Nora Roberts has been doing some great cover art lately as well with her O'Dwyer Cousins Trilogy. I don't particularly care for photographed covers. I prefer the "drawn" or "painted" ones because you can imagine so much more within lines and colors. A photograph just seems to ruin it because it's too real and I can't "escape" and imagine what's inside.

Interesting thoughts, literaturelover. One issue I have with photographs is that too often, it's a photo of the main character, but it doesn't really match. Wrong hair color, wrong fashion sense, wrong age, wrong background items... I don't mind it so much when it's more accurate. One cover that's downright gorgeous is Switched by Amanda Hocking.

The issue, though, is that in the book, the main character has serious issues with uncontrollable hair. Her hair is a frizzy mess. Also, she has facial features of a troll (she's a Trylle). Gorgeous as this cover is, it's not a match, really.

Yeah, it's totally gothic. The other two in the trilogy are equally gorgeous.

Fun topic, sorry I missed it previously.

As a mystery writer (I'm writing a series of modern American private detective novels) I was able to request the theme and general cover art to my publisher for my novels -- I signed a 3-book contract recently -- and here's what I asked for:

No stereotypical private eye in trenchcoat or semi-clad girl in peril, please. I prefer an abstract theme, dark color scheme (noir) and perhaps a hint at the Houston skyline, as my books are set there and such might stimulate the interest of local bookstore browsers.

The result was excellent! Rusty reddish hues and dark images, slightly abstract, and very eye-catching. I realize that I can't self-promote here but I'll try to get the cover art and dodge out the specifics and post it if I'm able to do so.

But I was delighted. The cover artist for the publisher did a superb job.

Okay, here's the cover art minus the book's title and subtitle. My real name is there but that's okay I think. If I'm breaking forum rules by posting my real name, please delete and let me know -- I don't want to get on the bad guy list.

Changed my mind, deleted the cover art till I get my author name also deleted. Then there will be zero ID to the book's sales info or google searches. Okay, here we are, devoid of info. Anyone interested in my books, PM me please...
