The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for Ink: Defenders MC
Because Ink was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.
Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.
This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

I would not have chosen to read this book had it not been for reading the first ten pages. Romance is not what I like to read at all, and I knew when I read the blurb that this was going to be more than just romance.
No, I will not read the whole book. I could tell as soon as I started reading that I wouldn't like it. I do not like crude talk, which I know...this is a biker club, but still. And then the sex scene around page 9 or 10. Ugh. I cannot stand to read about women being used as an object, and a woman actually letting herself be subjected to that. Just not my cup of tea.
I did not notice any typos or grammatical errors. Pretty good editing, it seems.
I just didn't like anything about it. Of course, it's not really based on the book being bad. It's just because I do not like books like this. This is a book for a very specific audience and I'm just not a member of that audience.

I could tell by the blurb that this wasn't my favorite genre. I read the first few pages to give it a chance. I couldn't get past the vulgar language and topic. I will admit I was curious about where the author was taking this plot. However, I won't continue reading it.

I wasn't really interested in this book after reading the review because it is about a biker club. After the first couple pages, I started to change my mind because the story seemed interesting. However, I probably won't read it because I do not like the explicit scenes. I also noticed some grammar errors in the first ten pages. Most were a missing comma in a run-on sentence, and once the word was was used instead of were.

This book was for lack of a better term, interesting. It was not what I expected from the cover and description at the beginning of the book. I would not have read the first ten, had it not been on the review list because it doesn't seem like a book I would enjoy. It is written well but due to the flow I don't think it was professionally edited. I didn't really like anything I read in the book, it seemed a little too dark for me, and sex seemed like it would play a central role. I will not be finishing the book.

I know there is such thing as a motorcycle club romance that I would love; there must be. However, I began this book without high hopes, mostly due only to its sub-genre. As I read the first pages, it followed my expectations. Although the quality of writing seemed perfectly adequate, there was the requisite swearing and sex. It would take a truly extraordinary pull to draw me into a book of this type, and I didn't feel like this book and I were the best match. I don't plan to finish this book, so I will have to continue my quest for intriguing romances another time with another book.

This is not a book I would normally read, but I did not realize that it would be so sexually explicit even from the beginning. I felt like there might be an interesting plot going on, but then it got disturbing. I will be trying to erase images from my mind now. Needless to say, I will not be reading further.

The cover is simple and (to me) unattractive, a picture of real flame would be better. I didn't like the pacing of this book, though that could be partially do to it's being the 9th in a series. There were errors, missing comas, things like that. The characters came across as juvenile and, in places, flat.
I probably would have been interested enough to look at it, but the blurb would have let me know it wasn't for me.
I'm not a fan of this type of blunt writing, nor the subject matter, so I will not be reading this book.

Had it not been for this program I'm not sure if I would have picked up this book. Part of the title confuses me (I'm not sure what 'Defenders' MC means), and the cover is a little off putting. Also, there aren't many reviews. Now, after reading the first ten pages, I have decided to continue the read. The writing flow is appealing to me and the concept of the story is as well.
The book does seem to be professionally edited. My favorite part of the novel, so far, is the relationship between Ink and Angel. The part that confuses me, which could be because I haven't read any of the other books in the series, is what exactly happens when Angel is pregnant? Is she going to sleep with her husband's brother and this is acceptable?

I did preview the first ten pages. It was not a book that I would add to my reading list. It does appear to have been edited professionally. It does have explicit sex in the story. I do like the cover. Congratulations on being book of the day.

Based on the summary blurb, I am not too interested in reading the entire book. The summary is rambling and doesn't appear to be professionally edited; there is a grammatical error, missing commas, and one or two run-on sentences. As a result, I found the summary difficult to follow. The cover artwork is eye-catching, although it doesn't tell me much about the story. I didn't care for the beginning pages as the story was hard to follow and there was graphic sexual content and excessive foul language.

I wouldn't have sampled this book without this program as Erotic isn't a genre I am interested in. Also, this is part of a series and I don't like starting a series from the middle. The blurb is too detailed and the cover isn't very fetching I have to say. The opening pages were a bit confusing and I didn't understand what's going on. The Second chapter sheds some light (about club girls and all) on the matter. I didn't like the language used and didn't connect to the content. It seems like a good book for fans of the genre, alas it isn't for me.

Total ~ 9%
Ink earned a score of 9%.
In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 9% plan to read the whole book.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.
Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
