The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for Miss Fancy Pants
Because Miss Fancy Pants was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.
Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.
This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

I would not have chosen to read this had I not sampled. It's just not a genre I read.
I will not buy and read the whole book. As I said, it's not a genre I read. Also, the writing style was too convoluted and just did not draw me in.
The first ten pages I read seemed well-edited. I did not spot any typos or grammatical errors.
As I mentioned previously, the writing seemed a bit convoluted. Perhaps that is just to get across the scattered nature of the main character? I don't know. It just did not capture my interest.

This book cover is a bit misleading for me. After reading the review I didn't think I would like it. After reading the first ten, I was right. I am not a fan of erotic books, they just don't suit me. I didn't notice any grammatical or spelling errors in the pages. I will not be finishing this book.

Based on the title and short description, I thought this would be a light-hearted romance. I read the first few pages but had trouble getting into the story. The characters seemed odd and I couldn't make a connection. I won't be reading the rest of this book.

I like the cover and think the title is cute, so I might have chosen this book without sampling it first. However, I'm glad I had the opportunity to read a bit and get a better idea of what this book is about. While I do like the writing style, I don't care for the main character at all. I usually need to at least find the main character interesting to like the book, so I don't think I'll continue reading this one. This book appeared to be professionally edited and error-free.

I was not a fan of this one. The book's description was wordy and struck me as overly pretentious, and the book's opening was rather confusing. The jump between imagined scene and actuality wasn't clean. I feel like the only thing I know about the main character at this point is that she's a mess. And I found some of the language odd: "a pottle of mud"? Why would you choose an archaic word here and then turn around and use text-speak and "boldacious" a moment later? I will not be finishing this book.

The writing in this one is incredibly poetic. While I had no idea what I was getting into, I certainly didn't expect that quality of writing! However, while there's absolutely nothing wrong with the book, it's not my kind of book so I won't be finishing it, despite the fact that I'd recommend it to others.

The first ten pages seemed a little all over the place to me, until I realized that the main character was exploring in her imagination. I didn't feel like the first ten pages were really enough to get an idea of this book, but from what I did read- it doesn't sound like something for me. I found no editing issues while reading.

This book sounded mildly interesting until the summary mentioned erotica. And, indeed, it starts nearly immediately with a very weird, very gross, erotic scene. Besides this, I had no idea what was going on--the setting and all other context was unclear. I will not be buying or reading this book.

I'll admit I wasn't enthused about this book from the beginning. The idea of a narrator who spends a lot of time drunk is just completely unappealing to me. Nevertheless, I gave the book a try, and I found that it didn't change my mind. I can't tell where it's going, and I don't want to spend any more time with the protagonist/narrator. I also noticed a few words that might be errors - one that I don't think is a real word, and one that was a British usage (even though the novel seems to be taking place in Los Angeles). I won't be continuing to read this book.

If it wasn't for this program, I most likely would not have picked up this book. The cover peaks my interest, as well as the genre and the reviews. However, the title and the blurb make me believe this to be a read that I would not enjoy. After sampling the first ten pages, I actually have decided to give this book a full read.
Based on the bit that I read, the book does seem to be professionally edited. What I liked most was the fact that the main character seems a bit lost. She seems to be in a haze, which can lead to a very good way for her to develop. On the other hand, I don't recall her name during these first few pages. I like knowing the characters' names when I'm reading about them.

The style of the writing didn't attract me. I can imagine others really enjoying this book, it's just not for me.
I like the cover, and the writing was fair. Though it felt a bit choppy, and almost satirical in places, just going off of the sample. (Perhaps that's the intention?)
I doubt I would have looked at this book, because of the genre and storyline.

If I had not sampled the first ten pages, I would not have chosen to read this book. Although I like the cover, the book is not in a genre that I typically enjoy reading, and therefore the blurb did not appeal to me either. Reading the first ten pages did not change my mind. I enjoyed the moment where we saw more to the main character as she talked about believing in yourself, but at the same time, I found it hard to connect to her because of the risque way she acted. However, I did think that the book seemed professionally edited and I think that this book would appeal to people who enjoy reading books with more mature themes.

Miss Fancy Pants by Alicia Gargaro-Magana was in the preview a book that if I did not currently have so much on my plate to read would be one that I would finish. The main character "Miss Fancy Pants" owner of Advantrix-LA meets Bill Boxem and changes his life. One of my favorite lines from the preview.
"It was five seconds of worry and ten of relief the cool moisture provided." Congratulations on being book of the day.

The summary of this book is confusing, I can't discern what this book is supposed to be about. The description of the main character makes her seem whimsical to the point that she's not living in reality. Reading the first ten pages didn't do much to change my image of her, and I'm still not sure what this book is really about. I won't be reading any more.

Based on the title, cover, and blurb, I would probably not pick this book up. The blurb to me was actually very confusing. I personally didn't really understand what the story was about. In some ways that is a good thing because it offers an air of mystery and adventure that could be lost until you actually read the book. However, for me it was not intriguing enough to want to read it. After reading the first ten pages, I think I would still decide not to read the whole thing. It is not because it is badly written, I just personally did not find myself interested in the genre. This is not the author's fault in any way, I just don't think this book is for me. I didn't notice too many errors or typos so it does seem professionally edited. Based on the customer reviews however, this book does seem to get great reviews and the audience loves it.

I would not have chosen to read this book based on the description given. While I do enjoy romance novels, I much prefer historical romance. While the premise of the book is an interesting one, and the first few pages were free from spelling and grammar mistakes, I will not continue to read the book. It just simply is not the kind of book that I enjoy reading, though I'm sure there are many who would enjoy it.

I wasn't really interested in this book based on the review. I did not change my mind after reading the first ten pages. The very first scene was too erotic for my taste, so I couldn't get into the book after that. I also noticed a few run-on sentences in the first pages, but those are the only grammar errors I noticed.

The cover of this book grabbed my attention, but it looks more like a memoir about Paris than a erotic romance. Although the Amazon blurb appears to be professionally edited from a technical standpoint, the explanation in the 2nd paragragh is vague and confusing - "to restore love and purposed to misplaced souls...heal those lost in the great divide." The beginning pages have a light, easy flow and give a little backstory of the main character's occupation. However, the story seems a bit too fluff for my taste so I am not interested in reading the rest of the book.

I would have sampled this book just because of the title! The title caught my fancy together with the cover. The blurb wasn't very fetching, but the official review sure had me intrigued. I found the start of the sample a bit weird, with the erotic dream and all, still, it was well-written. The author lost me when I reached the part where the heroine went for a walk with her friend. The dialogue between the two bored me a bit, to be honest. I won't finish the book as it didn't grab me enough to want to read further.

Total ~ 11%
Miss Fancy Pants earned a score of 11%.
In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 11% plan to read the whole book.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.
Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
