The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for DIABLO NIGHTS

Because DIABLO NIGHTS was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.

Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.

IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.

This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

I hadn't really wanted to read this book based on the review. After reading the first ten pages, I still wasn't really interested. I just couldn't get into it. It seems like it's good for some people, just not for me. I also noticed a couple of grammar errors. There were a few run-on sentences that were missing a comma.

After reading the Amazon reviews and description of the book I was excited to read the first ten pages. The book appears to be professionally edited and done so well. Emilia Cruz is a great character who is right up my alley. I enjoyed the conversation between her and Kurt, and am willing to guess the rest of the book is great. I am curious and will be completing the book. The cover and title got me curious so I likely would have sampled this without the first ten.

I find no issues with this book. It seems well written, with a compelling storyline. If pressed, I would note that Emilia has a little too much love for a single expletive, which she used three times in about a page and a half, but I found this more funny than annoying.
I liked that I didn't feel lost, even though it's part of a series.
The cover is nice, and fitting for the genre.

If this were a bigger genre for me, I might read it, but as it's not I won't be adding it to my list, however, I would recommend it to fans of the genre.

I don't jump in midway through a series and like to start at the beginning, so I likely would not have chosen this book. The pages I sampled were good and I think it will be an interesting story. I already like the characters. Before reading this book, I would read the first two in the series so I had a better idea of the big picture and the background. The book appeared to be professionally edited and error-free.

I'd heard this was a mystery novel, and I have no doubt it'll get to some good mystery, but thus far there's no hook or intrigue whatsoever. The writing is well-edited and enjoyable to read, but without something solid to pull me in yet I won't be finishing it.

Aside from it being the third of a series, I would have given the sample a try due to all the elements (title, cover, genre, blurb, and positive reviews). After sampling and the fact that it is free, this will definitely be going on my to-read list!

This well-written book has captured my attention for a couple of reasons thus far. For one, I love the relationship within the first ten pages. A Mexican detective woman with a complete opposite white man. For another, I love that the female protagonist is in a profession that requires her to be strong (both physically and emotionally). At this point in the story, I don't really see any need for improvement.

As I started this book, I was aware that I was reading the third book in a series, but it didn't seem to matter. There might be some backstory that I am missing or previous adventures that I don't know about, but the book doesn't seem to depend on them so far. The characters are already rounding out, and the plot seems to be moving along at a good clip. I plan to continue reading this book to see where it goes.

My favorite genre. After reading the preview I decided to download the whole story. Exciting characters Emilia Cruz Encinos and Kurt Rucker make this story come to life on the pages of the preview. Well written and appears to have been well edited. Looking forward to finishing the balance of the book. Thanks so very much for making this the book of the day.

This is not a book I would normally read, although I do love the cover. The first ten pages were pretty interesting. I like to start a series from the beginning, but it seems like this one is easy to read as a standalone novel. I like the main character and was drawn in by the hint of mystery in her backstory. The book seems well edited and I plan to read more.

Although I usually like mysteries, I found the Amazon summary blurb a little hard to follow with a busy plot. I also don't care for the topic of drug cartels in books. The cover is colorful and eye-catching. The beginning pages appear to professionally edited. Although the sample is well written, I wasn't grabbed by the story and am not interesting in reading further.

I would have sampled this book as it is another one of my favorite genres. The cover isn't very fetching though, and the blurb was too detailed. I found the opening pages interesting and well-written. The setting is certainly unique as is the main lead, Emilia Cruz. I was intrigued by her, especially after the glimpse into her childhood. I am interested in the book, but wouldn't read it any time soon as I have too many books waiting for me. I also prefer to start series from the start whenever possible. I grabbed my copy though, and will get to it eventually.

Total ~ 64%

DIABLO NIGHTS earned a score of 64%.

In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 64% plan to read the whole book.

IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.

Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
