When do you write?

Post by ModernDayBelle624 »

I currently work a day job and try to get a little writing done during my fifteen and lunch break. I also try to write once I get home and blog once a day. Every writer has the advice to write every day, so I try to stay true to that motto.

When do you write? And how do you keep it a priority when times are tough?

I find life very busy with various things, however my main time to write is generally at night once the busy rush and hecticness of the day is over I almost use it as a time to unwind. Also after watching something in theatre or finishing a book almost inspires mr to write.

I write at any given time of the day.
Sometimes if I'm having a rough day, I may stay up really late and type away.
Or if I'm just day dreaming during a nice afternoon I may journal away.
It's hard to schedule something that's creative, especially when there is work to be done, cleaning a house, kids, etc.
But music definitely inspires me and gets my writing going :)

Normally in the evening. There's just so much going on in the day I rarely find time then. Although, if I'm on a long train journey, I love using that time to write.

In the evening and the night, as well. Once read a nice saying - most writers prefer to work in the night because there are less people awake to take the ideas floating around between the ground beneath us and the sky above us. In silence, they grasp for the straws of fantasy waiting to be found.

There was a day that my writing was reserved for "after everything else was done." However, typically after everything else was done I was too tired to be creative.
Writing is now a priority. I carry a notebook everywhere I go. I get up early and and reread what I wrote the night before. When the characters call, I answer. I brush my teeth, eat and sometimes sleep at my keyboard, I print out samples to edit over my lunch break and often will write through the night. If I don't know which way I am taking a chapter I write here, or Hubpages or Goodreads or anywhere else until the there's chink in the dam waiting to break. It always does. I will be a well published writer - it is my goal, my dream, my desire!
Best selling is in there too, but thats another question. :-)

I find myself trying to stick to a set plan, but find it hard to break away from work to do some "personal writing." The best thing I have done is to incorporate writing into my job, and practice, practice, practice. If your job doesn't involve much writing than you might have to do it during your break/lunch time.

Also, I find myself more motivated after my morning coffee!!!!!

At a set time certain days of the week? In fits and spurts? With a child on your lap? While the sun comes up? When the sun goes down? When you have a deadline, or when you don’t have a deadline? During lunch or dinner? Do write while at home or at school or at work? After a fight with your spouse or best friend? Or after you make up?

Do you write when you miss someone? Do you write while you grieve? Do you write when you’re angry? Do you write to defy someone? Do you write when you need to prove something to yourself or to someone else? Do you write when it’s been a tough day or an easy one? Do you write when you need the money or need the sanity? Do you write only when you get paid? Do you write while your kids are in school, or in front of the TV or sleeping? Do you write during sleepless nights? When you need or feel needed? Do you write when you’re happy or unhappy? Do you write when you’re tired? When you’re lonely? When you’re afraid or scared? Do you write when you need peace?

I welcome writers to answer this one question.

I write whenever the mood hits me and unfortunately that sometimes means waking up out of my sleep to write - it's just whenever the ideas come.

I write my thoughts out almost daily. I started as just a way to vent my frustrations but ended more of just journaling about my day, thoughts, things I plan to do. Now I have acquired a huge many boxed collection of my thoughts written out. I'm 38now so and I've been collecting my journals since I was about 14.
I love to write, would love to be a writer and publish one day. I'm just not good at writing from the imagination.
Can people write about their lives and make it a successful publishing? I've had a rough life as far as my health goes and medicine in something I find great interest in. I wonder how I could go about it...

Most of my best (serious) writing occurs from November or December until February...during the cold snowy winter. Too much outside distraction/things I enjoy to stay focused during the Spring/Summer/Fall.

I generally like to write either early in the morning after my first cup of coffee. My house is still quiet and peaceful at that time. I will find myself writing during the late hours of the night when I have trouble sleeping. At work, I keep a small notebook and pen close at hand, in case a moment of inspiration occurs while I am doing something else. This way I can maintain my focus, but not lose the ideas that may come to me during the day.
