One of the best parts about reading I Will Make of Thee a Great Nation: Old Testament Stories is that it brings to life many of the accounts in the Old Testament that are sometimes hard to read. Although the author, Mr. Greenwood, refers to the Old Testament “stories,” I prefer to call them “accounts.” The reason for this is that “stories” make you think of something that is fictional or made-up, whereas “accounts” more accurately describe the true events that took place in history as is the case in the Bible. Mr. Greenwood’s book is very easy to read and understand with a minimal number of typos and grammatical errors. In reading I Will Make of Thee a Great Nation: Old Testament Stories, I found Mr. Greenwood’s inclusion of Maps and Pronunciation Guide to be extremely helpful.

As a Biblical scholar, Mr. Greenwood does an excellent job of referencing the Old Testament books and scriptures to back up the “accounts” that he sets out in his book and explaining the importance of the Old Testament. In his "Introduction" to the book, he talks about the influence that William Tyndale had in translating the Bible into English in the 1500’s. Specifically, he says, “In the Prelude to his translation of portions of the Old Testament from Hebrew, [Tyndale] talked about those men and women whose lives are the framework and substance of the Old Testament.” I love how Mr. Greenwood goes on to explain the importance of the Old Testament when he says, “And because we are like them in so many ways, we can profit by learning about them.” Most importantly, Mr. Greenwood explains that “the primary message of the Old Testament” is to reveal the mission of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in knowing more about the Bible.
