"Randy Love...at your service"by Shay Carter is a romance book that could be called a life-attitude book. Randy Love, the main character, is the most superficial person on Earth, paying attention to nothing and to nobody except his own person. He uses everybody around him in order to succeed in fulfilling his plans: to get a job, to finish his college classes, to change his job, to move to London and to find a proper and affordable accommodation in the city. He is not willing to commit to a serious relationship, finding his female partners too nagging, extremely carrying, very tiring or really dedicated to the relationship. Finally, helped by his sister, he manages in changing his view of life and becomes ready to have his female partner besides and, even more important, to make compromises with himself and with the others.

I enjoyed this book as the funny and witty tone that Shay Carter used in "Randy Love...at your service" easily captivates everyone. The structure of the book allows the reader to follow, step by step, the evolution of the main character. It can't be said that Randy Love evolves throughout the book until the very last chapter. As his last name mentions, he is exploring love affair after love affair. Randy seems "to have completely missed the point of life". His life can't get better as long as he doesn't use his "knowledge of people" to get where he wants. He is "the most unobservant person", always "thinking of himself in the singular". Throughout the book, he considers women "no more than a lock for his key", thus being unable to get involved into a serious relationship. At the end of the book, a few sentences addressed directly to him by his sister determine him to change attitude towards women, relationships, the other people and life, in general.

The author is extremely intelligent when it comes to characterizations. Every character in the book is characterized by the others. Randy Love would never be ready to accept his selfishness and his superficial attitude. We soon find out that "he was able to manipulate a situation to his advantage from a very young age". Randy can boast with only three things: he is pretty fantastic, he can down a pint in less than five seconds and he rescued a mate's cat from a tree. Randy's father (unfortunately his mother had died) represents the rock where Randy always returns for a piece of advice and guidance. Thus, he gets one of the most precious suggestions that he tries to take into consideration throughout the book: "The secret is to figure out what they (women) want and give it to them, then stand back and ride the wave of gratitude". Finally, his father's friend and his sister help him understand that life can be beautiful and full of optimism, and problems can be easily solved if he stops for a few moments and makes some plans for his future (actions).

Besides its characters, its catching tone and the modern setting, the plot of the book works nicely. There are important twists in the main character's life that keep the reader interested in the action course of the book. The only real problem of this book is that it needs another edit to fix some spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. I found many of them in the first 148 pages.

"Randy Love...at your service" is a great easily readable novel with good characters and atmosphere. I can only rate this book 3 out of 4 stars due to its editing. Fortunately, this can be easily fixed. I recommend this book to those readers that want to clear up their mind of the every day stress and problems and want to have a relaxing evening or even a pleasant Sunday rainy afternoon.
