When I completed this book, I was surrounded by the feeling of a woman talking to her child/ younger sibling, saying “I have gained this knowledge, and now I am gifting it to you.” In The Life and Lessons of a Young Author, Sunayna Prasad shares with us, the readers, writers and future publishers, her first hand, personal experience of how she came to learn and understand the process of publishing. She also provides useful tips to help each individual on their own prospective journey.

The book, written in chapter format may have been more targeted to those who have the desire to publish books, whether in the near or far future, however, Prasad also provided knowledge applicable to writing as well. Therefore, I would say this book is applicable to not just those who intend to publish their books, but those who also want to improve upon their writing skills, if even for their own personal gain. This book can be found useful to people aged 8 and beyond.

As a reader and aspiring author myself I related to this book on a very personal level. I appreciated the advice she gave, and could mentally utilize each tip given, making a mental scope of them, based on her tips, to improve my own writing skills and be more prepared when I am ready to publish a book of my own.

Her wise and motherly tone may also be found very effective in allowing others to truly accept the knowledge and advice she has to offer. Some authors giving advice on this topic often have a strong factual and reprimanding tone. This was not the case with Sunayna. She allowed her personality to shine through as she relayed her experience/ actions taken as well as in her writing style. It was one that provided comfort that would give the readers the assurance needed to believe that it is indeed okay to make mistakes.

She enclosed full details of her experience, talking of the many mistakes she made while attempting to publish her first book. This proved as useful examples of what not to when publishing. She also provided sound corrections to all of her mistakes listed.

I really enjoyed this book, there was nothing I found troubling, false or over or under done. However, despite this, the book contained several grammatical errors that gave the book a feel of rush work, or excited typing. I would suggest that the author go over the book a few more times to correct all of these errors, and read slowly.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. If it were not for the grammatical errors this book would have been very much deserving of 4 stars.
