Review of In It Together
Imagine standing in front of a mirror, looking at yourself with all of your exterior identities, such as "I'm wearing this dress, wearing these luxurious products, and I have a name, fame, and all the identities," and then suddenly thinking about what happens when everything is stripped off. Now that you are standing as your raw, true self, how would you treat yourself, and how would you lead yourself to overcome obstacles, confront problems, and experience life from your perspective? Importantly, Eckhart Aurelius Hughes' book, "In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us," explores life's core values and thought processes.
This book explores why people sometimes fail to aid others. Additionally, people often fail to help themselves. While reading this, several of the author's lines made me reconsider previous ideas, such as "We treat them so cruelly because we treat them like we treat ourselves," which is the counterattack to "Treat others how you want to be treated."
This phrase, along with many other quotes, sparked a profound thought-awakening process in me: are we truly like that? Do humans fail to treat others fairly? Is this inflated self-esteem a result of such mindsets?
As a result, the conversation shifted to how transient things like clothing, position, and job profile could not define you since they may vanish the next second, even as you were staring in the mirror. Through this debate, I gained a greater understanding of dualism, genuine self vs. false self, and even how we might trick our future into false belief by being dishonest in the present. Initially, I hesitated to comprehend that there are identities that may be fake or pseudo-identities, but as I listened to the author's step-by-step narrative, I gradually came to grasp the notion of these two selves, real and pseudo, fighting inside myself.
The detailed coverage of many subjects allowed readers to understand the analysis rather than simply stating it and moving on. These ideas need one individual to approach them with an open mind, relate to their conditions, and comprehend how they genuinely operate.
For instance, the concepts of "mind and body being your master versus your servant" and "seeing the world through God's eyes," even if you are not a disciple of God, are crucial.
This book contains several suggestions that, if understood, are quite valuable, such as the act of letting go, illusion, and self-deception for a better future. Some of the author's concepts surprised me since I had never considered alternative aspects of thinking, for example, "You cannot eliminate desires by fulfilling them; fulfillment causes desires and goals to be replaced rather than eliminated."
All of these considerations led me to give this book a 5 out of 5 rating. It featured a deep, extensive composition regarding the author's views and was well-narrated for readers to grasp. The narrative prompted me to think about the matter and reflect on my opinions. The principles were excellent and practical for use in real life, and, importantly, a few subjects challenged me and made me analyze deeply. During my reading of the book, I found nothing to be dissatisfied with. I found no problems in the grammar section; thus, the editor gets full points for producing a well-edited work. I suggest this book to everyone who is keen to learn about basic human challenges and how to overcome them.
