Review of In It Together
We humans are often in endless pursuit of something—driven by a relentless need for more. Bombarded by countless inputs from the outside world, we fail to recognize that what truly matters comes from within and resides there.
In this context, In It Together The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All serves as a guide. It leads us down a path of introspection and prioritization. Taking us by the hand, it accompanies us on a spiritual and eye-opening journey. In particular, it teaches us to distinguish our true selves and nurture them: by learning to forgive ourselves and show kindness; by earnestly examining our harmful habits and questioning whether they bring us closer to spiritual freedom; and by achieving true conscious love—love that arises from our consciousness and connects to another’s, encompassing our past and future selves, and achieving a sense of temporal and spatial unity.
Conscious love, therefore, requires awareness and links consciousnesses, even across time and space. While we are composed of physical bodies—temporary and illusory containers for our essence—we are ultimately part of a greater whole.
To find peace, we must stop fighting. We need to embrace our lower selves, unconditionally accept and love the duality of our nature, and trust in what we cannot control.
This book takes us on a journey to recognize and liberate our true selves, breaking free from the chains of imposed expectations and perceived obligations. It reminds us of our agency in shaping our own fate. Ultimately, it is all about us—we can choose love. And in this choice, we are not alone. The book supports us, believes in us, and reassures us that we are worthy, lovable, and unique.
I especially love how the book shifts focus to the present and to us. Happiness is not something distant or beyond our reach. It is not waiting on the other side of obstacles, nor is it contingent on winning a battle or enduring a struggle. Happiness is here, now, within us. By acknowledging our own beauty and the beauty of the world, we can begin to truly enjoy life.
The story is also filled with inspiring and sensational quotes, drawing from the philosophical, literary, scientific, and spiritual realms. These lessons hold universal validity and strength, with each example contributing meaningfully to the larger narrative. The language is cultivated, vivid, and descriptive. The editing is flawless.
I found nothing to dislike about the book. It is truly enlightening and empowering. However, I do feel compelled to issue a light warning: the book references abuse and self-destructive behavior. These references are presented matter-of-factly and serve to illustrate how we undermine ourselves by failing to practice self-love and love in general. Nevertheless, these perspectives, though illuminating, may be triggering for some readers.
For all these reasons, I consider this book deserving of 5 out of 5 stars.
