[Following is a volunteer review of "No Reprieve:" by Inge-Lise Goss.]
No Reprieve by Inge-Lise Goss is the spectacular second novel in the No Freedom trilogy. The book opens with our main character, Paislee, who has recently joined the rebels to fight against the Institute and ever-increasing android control. Paislee tries to complete her assigned mission from the rebels at the Portland courthouse, but android leader Pellegrin quickly intercepts her rebel plans. Her new mission is even higher stakes: build trust with Pellegrin in the hopes of uncovering secret information that could destroy android influence once and for all.
This book is action-packed from start to finish. Goss kept me gripped in Paislee’s story, and the whole novel read so quickly for me. I kept wanting more of Paislee’s world, which is why I am so thrilled to hear that Goss has written another book!
I found myself in love with the main character, Paislee. It’s common for female leads in these types of dystopian novels to fit an archetype of a damsel in distress or a femme fatale, but Paislee was refreshingly unique. Her problems—even if based in an android-controlled world—seemed authentic and so did the solutions to those problems. The love I had for Paislee is a testament to Goss’s success as a writer.
I also admired how Goss crafted this novel. Although I had not read the first book, I had no problem picking up the sequel. All of the plot points from the previous book were explained and thoroughly covered, so I did not miss anything.
Overall, No Reprieve was a fantastic novel, and I deeply enjoyed reading it. Because of Goss’s authentic character development and riveting plot, I am pleased to rate No Reprieve five out of five stars. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fast-paced and highly suspenseful read.
