The death of Julie Donovan revealed more of Julie’s life to Donovan than he ever knew about her. Engulfed by the loss of his loving wife, Donovan almost killed himself but was visited by Schull and his mechanical attendants, who let him know suicide would be a mistake. Donovan continued to learn more about his wife’s death, and he became suspicious of Jack and the monstrous Glenrose. Is Julie’s death really an accident, as it seems, or is there more to it? How does Jack Carter's involvement affect or relate to Julie’s childhood? Who is Schull? Read this thought-provoking book by Killian Schull to find out.

Donovan became more suspicious of Jack and Glenrose and how they could be involved in the death of Julie as he learned more about his wife's past and secrets that threatened to chatter about the image of a wonderful wife Donovan had donned on his wife. The book expertly contained the themes without making them too heavily drawn out. The book discusses the themes of power, corruption, the supernatural, unconscious evil, the human mind, and trauma. The theme of corruption is seen in how Julie's trauma was discarded by the church, the promise never fulfilled, and also through Jack Carter's price alteration. The book also explores minor themes about bullying, hate, and rape. The writing style of the book maintained an even tone; the tone remained consistently dark from the beginning until the end.

One major admirable point in Schull; Book 1; Volume 1; The Introduction Story No.1 by Killian Schull is the amazing character development. Killian did an amazing job with the development of the characters. An important character is that of William Donovan; he was revealed as a hardworking construction worker, and he later evolved as he grieved for his wife and his obsession to uncover the truth about Glenrose and the cunning Jack Carter. As Donovan continues to grasp his unconscious evil and inner demon, more of his character begins to evolve outstandingly. Another notable aspect of the book is how Killian addressed the concepts of fear and trauma—the fear of the unknown and the inner mind—and how childhood unaddressed trauma can affect one as one develops. This is beautifully shown in the chilling encounter and confrontation between Schull and Donovan, showing Killian's expertise in blending horror with psychological depth and understanding. The book added a little bit of humor amidst the conversation, which helped to balance the dark tone and subject of the book. The world-building through the episodic nature of the chapters is also worth noting, as it gives direction to the book’s plot.

The book is without flaw, as I found the pacing to be sometimes off, and this comes from my experience with the book. Another part is the lack of an in-depth explanation of certain terms used in the book. For instance, the use of “IT” in the book is totally not well explained, and the context in which it was used is highly confusing. Lastly, the use of religion and God in the book is not well explored with the spiritual and conscious notions emphasized in the book. A more detailed insight into this concept would increase readers' satisfaction, creating an immersive reading experience.

The book is well edited. I rate this intriguing story 4 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend the book to readers interested in books with a hint of horror, thrillers, and religion. This is a book that will leave readers to analyze their values and morals about what is good and evil.

The story follows William Donovan, who, after the mysterious death of his wife Julie, uncovers unsettling secrets about her past that lead him to question whether her death was truly accidental. As Donovan becomes increasingly suspicious of two men, Jack Carter and Glenrose, he grapples with his inner demons and childhood trauma, themes explored alongside corruption, power, and the supernatural. The book, praised for its character development and dark tone, effectively blends horror with psychological depth, though it occasionally suffers from pacing issues and a lack of clarity on certain themes. A thriller with a psychological element developed with various ramifications seems interesting despite the flaws you pointed out. I'm curious to see how William Donovan's personal investigation of his wife's death will end. Thank you for your great review!
