[Following is a volunteer review of "Who Told You That You Were Naked?" by William Combs.]

This literary non-fictional work recounts what happened in the Garden of Eden. To some extent; this had been the source of sin and even death to mankind. The author William E. Combs in his book: “Who Told You That You Were Naked?: A Refreshing Reexamination of the Garden of Eden.” Put an emphasis on the concepts of sin, death, salvation, and faith that came into existence after the first human was cheated by a sly serpent.

The Old Testament of the Bible in the book of Genesis; narrates how sin and death had entered the world. The author William E. Combs also in his work narrates the joyful life of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden; and how this joyful life in Eden came to end. The book explores the life of Adam and Eve and their descendants. Once a time; something strange happened to Eve; and later on to Adam. They were cheated to break God’s rule. The results were bad. They were chased away from the Garden of Eden. It was the beginning of new hard and sweatful life out of Eden. Hence they realized they were naked. Their encounter with the serpent doomed the mankind.

(But) who told them that they were naked? The simple answer to this question is when Adam and Eve after eating the forbidden fruit; their eyes were widely opened and they realized that they were nude. In fact; they were in need of something to wear to cover their nudity. It is the reason why they hid themselves when God called Adam asking him where he was at that moment.

The book “Who told you that you were naked?” can be a useful didactic material for students who undertake Biblical studies. The author William E. Combs is a retired minister of Presbyterian Church; who is passionate about the Gospel and God’s ministry. He holds a master of Divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary. The book title goes along with the Bible verse; in Genesis chapter 3 verse 11 which states:” Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat?”

The author re-reminds us as readers to forget ourselves and follow Jesus with each one’s own cross as the Bible states in Ephesians 6:10-13. God gave us sense to realize good and evil. It is our turn to make the right choice and obey His rules rather than feeling ashamed of the results from the wrongdoings. Glad God gave us His own son Jesus Christ to die for our sins that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have an everlasting life.

What I liked most in the book “Who told you that you were naked?” by William E. Combs is the study questions for discussion at the end of each chapter. These made me understand clearly everything that I had learnt. By trying to answer those study questions; the mind widely perceives everything of the book. I also liked how different Bible stories are artfully inserted in the book to the extent it reaches all corners of the Bible. These truly make readers remain with something tangible in mind.

All in all, the life journey of Adam and eve from their innocence beginning in Eden until their fall, their descendent Cain and Abel, their following generations, the origin of sin and its aftermath, the interesting story of Israelites, the Believers’ rest, and the great story of The Only Sinless Son of Adam; Jesus Christ had all given this book a unique diversity that I enjoyed while reading.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I give this book a maximum stars rate due to the fact that the author stylistically used some study questions at the end of each chapter; which made reader deeply analyses and understand all that had been previously read in that chapter. Not only are these study questions but also the diversification of chapters have made this book worth enjoyable.
