In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes, in my words, is basically the author's advice on how to live a contented life. Hughes illustrates how, though we are physically separated, we're in some way common. An example is when we see or read that someone is in pain and feel sorry for them. He further goes on to distinguish each human's two identities—the true self and the false self—and their characteristics. Hughes argues that putting these two selves against each other has consequences and explains how we can eliminate this rivalry by knowing what to embrace and what to eliminate.

An interesting aspect is the bar the book sets for a reader's expectations and curiosity by starting with an opening question. From there, you're challenged about your understanding of the human self as a reader. In my opinion, it is an interesting way to open a philosophical book. In addition, the author shows how well he understands the topic he discusses by quoting relatable content to emphasize his points. I also applaud him for using examples throughout the book to ensure his point hits home. For instance, an example of a bachelor's features, like hairstyle, doesn't define bachelorhood, which Hughes used to show what determines the real us.

Besides the excellent writing, the book's message is worth the time. When you finish reading this book, your perception of yourself will have been dismantled and recreated. I now better understand myself; I am not the person I thought I was all these years. I have also learned the values of contentment, acceptance, and letting go. Thanks to Scott.

In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All is exceptionally edited, and I didn't encounter any negatives to comment on. Its contents are full of inspiration for living a life of awareness. Therefore, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend the book to anyone seeking the true meaning of life.
