Review of The Warrior Angel

The Warrior Angel By M.A. Beasley is the story of a single mother and her son trapped in a pact with the devil. While driving with her son Lucas back from Christmas shopping, Gracie meets with a car accident. Lucas is gravely injured, and doctors have given up hope for his life. Although unbelieving, in a desperate attempt to save her son, she is led by her mother to repeat a prayer to someone called Faust. Lucas is miraculously cured, but little did she know that, unknowingly, she had made a pact with the devil and that she had traded her soul with him. After ten years, Faust demands another life—either she offers someone else to die or he will claim her son's life. Gracie's mother reveals that a similar pact had been made in her family that resulted in the death of a loved one. She is told, even by Father Alan, that there is no escape from the inevitable, and Faust is sure to win. But Gracie is not going to let her son die. Is there someone out there who could save them from the devil? Some angel, or a warrior against evil? If so, at what cost? The story reveals the destiny of Lucas.
The author, in her first attempt at a horror novel, has done a great job. She has woven a scary tale around Faust, a mythical character from a German legend, and has developed the character as expected for a demon who abhors anything even remotely connected to God and religion. A mother's love, the readiness to sacrifice anything for her child, and the plight of a single mother are evident in both Gracie's and her mother's characters, along with human weaknesses. Lucas, on the other hand, appears too mature for his 18 years.
The narrative has very few characters, mostly women, and the plot is simple. I liked the plot and the characters, but I was disappointed with the profanity in the language and the poor editing. Apart from the errors, this is an interesting book, but my overall rating is 3 out of 5 stars. I wish the author had kept the profanities to a minimum and the editing had been better.
The book delivers a strong message about life and death: one should accept God's will, and any attempt to indulge in immoral and evil acts against it is ultimately going to backfire. I would suggest this book to people who like to read horror stories and do not mind some strong language.
