“Snatched up to Heaven for Kids” by Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul is a children’s Christian book designed to teach kids about the concept of Heaven and Hell in an accessible way. The story focuses on eight year-old Emma. She and her two sisters live with their kind, devout Christian parents. The girls are well-loved and well-provided for. Their parents aim to teach to them about God and the Bible and it is part of their routine to pray together and read from the Bible every night.

One night, Emma has a dream about angels taking her and her sister, Bella, to Heaven. The next day she tells her parents about it and prays that she can go back. Emma visits Heaven in her dreams several times throughout the book and tells her parents and sister about each visit. Each visit to Heaven, Emma sees more and more of the joyous place with Jesus. Emma also has a scary dream where Jesus takes her to see Hell. Each time she awakes from her dreams, she tells her parents what happened and what she saw. Her parents are able to find verses in the bible that have details similar to what Emma is describing and, together, they talk about what she has seen and experienced. The verses quoted are noted in the book so that readers might look these up themselves in their own Bibles at home.

The story does a good job of breaking down the Bible’s concept of Heaven and Hell in a way that kids will easily be able to understand and digest. It paints a lovely picture of Heaven for Emma and her sister to explore in Emma’s dreams. Kids will love the bright and beautiful pictures throughout depicting Emma and her family and her adventures with Jesus through the afterlife. Some of the exposition is written in large chunks which may make it hard for very young kids to pay attention to.
