Review of Thriving in the Storm

[Following is a volunteer review of "Thriving in the Storm" by Bill Murphy.]
The book "Thriving in the Storm" was not at all what I expected. My expectation was for a check-off-the-list self help guide book. What I got was an in-depth guide to help change your mind set from negative, doubting feelings to a more positive, confident outlook on life.
I enjoyed getting to know the author. He put a great deal of thought into what parts of his life to show the readers. That included the good, happy, positive things as well as the bad, sad, negative things. All aspects were equally shared with us. He did not stand on his high horse to tell us that this is the only way to be successful. He showed us how to achieve certain goals in our lives by taking each of us by the hand and walking us through life. It was refreshing.
The way William Murphy describes his life's trials and ultimate failures (and successes) makes the reader feel like he/she is just a normal every day person going through the motions of life. The Nine Principles that are discussed are done so in an easy to approach manner. There is much encouragement to take baby steps on making positive changes in your life. There is equal discouragement in diving head first into making changes without first knowing your purpose. It is as much a how-to book as well as a what-not-to-do!
I generally enjoyed the book. The only thing I would have liked a bit more of is the female perspective. The women in his life are mentioned, but not as contributing factors in acting on the Nine Principles. I would like to see that view.
“Thriving in the Storm” will be one book I recommend. I see it being particularly helpful to young men, just starting out in life and trying to figure out their place in the world. It will help them to organize the sometimes chaotic thoughts that come with leading a household to navigating their career path.
I rate the book 4 out of 5.
