We are social beings by nature. We always yearn to connect with people in our lives. Unfortunately, we may feel a sense of loneliness and disconnection from the rest of the population. But as Ellen Dawson iterates in her book, You Can Talk to Anyone, the most critical relationship is with ourselves.

According to Ellen Dawson, loneliness carries an inescapable feeling of emptiness. There is a definite affiliation between loneliness and disconnection too. We plunge ourselves into profound loneliness when we realize the disparity between the quality and quantity of social relationships we have and the ones we desire to have. Before proceeding, we must comprehend the meaning of mental health. The WHO standard is that one is of normal health if one can cope with the typical stressors of life while working to achieve their highest potential and contributing to their immediate community.

This book is replete with insightful information related to health. Health entails physical, social, mental, and spiritual well-being. I was introduced to the typical mental illnesses: depression and anxiety. However, my biggest shocker was about gaming disorder. Did you know that gaming disorder has been declared a form of mental disorder by the World Health Organization? As a public health professional, I was disappointed in myself for always overlooking this menace as a mental disorder. The good news is that this form of addiction can be crushed through some therapies. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of them.

To help us better understand the topics presented, Ellen Dawson provided real-life examples and instances. Most of the items were simplified for a layman to understand. For instance, a practical tip for breaking disconnection entails starting small and setting realistic goals. For every connection listed, the author was quick to point out its health benefits. Did you know that social connection stimulates better memory?

My greatest takeaway is the importance of developing a new mindset. The old mindset holds us from achieving our goals. It instills fear and dissuades us. By shifting gears, the new mindset exposes us to our capabilities: therefore, we can achieve anything we want. It is also vital to be compassionate with ourselves. We will fail sometimes. This is the time we need to remain positive and alter our goals to ensure that we stick to the path of success.

If you want to join or be part of a mutual support group, this book will show you how to do it. The group incorporates like-minded individuals, and the principal focus is steering social connections. I encourage anyone experiencing difficulties with communication to check out You Can Talk to Anyone. You will also find ways of striking meaningful friendships therein also. Since I found nothing defective in this book, I am obliged to rate it 5 out of 5.

This is something that I just realize lately. For a long time I believed that I could be my own company. While that worked for a bit, I finally realized what I needed.

This book is meant for me. I am an introverted kind of person. Who prefer to be alone. As mentioned, it has a negative impact on our health. This book would be a big help to someone out there like me who wants to conquer their fears of socializing.I am looking forward to reading this book.

Human beings are natural communicators. No matter what we do, we always need one another and this is the thing that makes us unique and brings everyone together. I liked the way you describe everything clearly in your review and it is very helpful. I enjoyed your review and would love to try the book as well. Thank you!

I'm naturally introverted and selectively extroverted. So, despite knowing the importance of building relationships, I wouldn't be motivated to do so, honestly. I like my company. And so far, I've had zero life experiences that'd make me seek others' company as well. As I said, I'm selectively extroverted, so if I do want or need something from a person, I'd easily walk up to them. That seldom happens.
