[Following is a volunteer review of "Genesis Awakens" by Akorede Adekoya and Howard Haugom.]
Genesis Awakens by Akorede Adekoya and Howard Haugom is about a woman named Gen who is a troubled college student and grieving her grandfather’s recent death. Gen has lived an extremely ordinary life up until the point of her grandfather’s death where she soon discovers her life’s true destiny: to protect the nails used during the crucifixion of Jesus.
I really liked how the book takes the reader through scenes from both the past and present while combining fascinating aspects of religion, magic, history, and fiction. The authors do a very great job of explaining the religious aspects of the book and combining them with a fictional story that has just the right amount of truth and fictitious adventure with the characters. I also liked that Gen fought powerful enemies and had to complete various challenges to fulfill her destiny. This allowed her to have a great heroic arc within the story.
The only thing I did not like about the book was that some of the scenes had great potential to have more depth to them if they were described in more detail. Some scenes felt rushed through and almost too blunt and somewhat took away from the complexity of the storyline.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars for all of the reasons I stated above. The authors wrote a compelling story about the importance of faith, camaraderie, and bravery in the face of evil. I liked that the plotline was a very interesting take on aspects of Christian history. I also found no errors or typos, a testament to the exceptional editing of the book.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in action and adventure. The book has religious aspects to it, but you do not need to hold religious beliefs to enjoy the story. It should also be noted that there are descriptions of violence, fighting, and death. Also, there are no scenes of nudity or sexual content.
