[Following is a volunteer review of "Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula" by R.F. Kristi.]
Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is the story of a cat named Inca and her adventure reuniting two siblings separated by political disputes between two countries. Inca is the head of a detective agency, which consists of her sibling cats and her friends. Inca's humanoid, Missy, is a famous chef and is invited to a cooking competition held in Korea. On the spot, Inca learns that Missy's rival, Enzo, is also invited to the competition and will do anything to sabotage Missy's reputation in front of world-famous chefs. Upon their arrival in Korea, Inca and her family meet their translator, Ye-Jun, and learn about his sister, who went to North Korea and never came back. Inca accepts the responsibility of bringing the two siblings together with the assistance of her agency.
The author has done an outstanding job with this book. It's written in a simple language that children can read on their own. It encourages the reader to respect animals because they have feelings as well. The sarcasm used was top-notch, and the picture provided by the author after describing a scene made the book more engaging. The plot was fascinating, and I couldn't put the book down without finishing it. Inca's character inspires the reader to always help others, have faith in your loved ones, and never be scared to do the right thing. This book also contains some interesting and informative facts related to Korean history.
There was nothing I didn't like about this book. This was a beautiful work of art from beginning to end. There is only one thing I believe could be improved: Page 7 in the Kindle format is a little hazy, and something should be done about it. Aside from that, I don't believe there is much potential for improvement because this book is already amazing.
I did identify some inaccuracies in this book, but they were minor and did not cause me to drop any stars. As a result, I'd rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I would recommend this book to kids between the ages of six and ten. Children under the age of six can also read this book, but they may need the assistance of an adult to understand difficult words. This book, in my opinion, is the ideal birthday present for children who enjoy reading.
