[Following is a volunteer review of "Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula" by R.F. Kristi.]
Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is a children's book about the mission of a cat's family when they visited South Korea in the company of Missy, their human mother. Missy was an experienced chef. She received an invitation from a French cookery school to judge Le Cordon Bleus competition, a competition between chefs from South and North Korea. Besides, she would introduce her newly made Crème de la Crème cheese. On her travel, the Siberian Kitty cat, Inca, accompanied her. After their arrival, Inca found friendship with the dog detective, Terrance, who was in the company of its human father, Solo. The cat and dog family began a detective mission whose fame spread wide. What would they bring as the aftermath of their detective work? Watch the unfolding of the events.
It is a fantastic book to read. To begin with, the author has incorporated fancy graphics and descriptive illustrations that make the book attractive. Again, the storyline is compelling, especially regarding animal interactions, friendships, cooperation, and collaboration. Once more, the author is an experienced narrator, evident through the creativity of merging stories of animal detective moves and that of humans on their routine life engagements. Moreover, as a skilled storyteller, the author has used her experience to instill some qualities in the readers. Children can borrow life skills and virtues from Inca: courage and determination.
In the introduction and characterization part of the book, the author has provided too much background information, which is burdening to children, the ideal readers of this book.
I rate this book five out of five stars. First, the book's flow is soothing. Secondly, the unfolding of subplots aligns with the book's title, Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula. Thirdly, the book's editing is exceptional.
I recommend this book to readers who love cats and dogs as their pets. There is much they can learn about the nature of animal interactions.
