You beat me to it.
Being a bit snarky at times, heh heh, I once or twice have played the "writer's website" joke on people.
They'll ask me "Where do you get your ideas? I'd like to write a book but I just don't have any ideas."
And I glance around in a conspiratorial manner, lower my voice and say, "Well, I really shouldn't be telling you this, but..."
And then I launch into a story where writers have this "secret" association. Once years ago they'd mail you a book full of ideas, nowadays it's a secret website. We pay our dues and then we can just enter the sort of story we'd like to write -- a romance, a mystery, a fantasy... and then the site simply pops up with various plot sequences, character biographies, story stubs for us to start with. For a little more money we can even download books that are mostly already written, but usually the recommendations we get are sufficient. We can download starter chapters and plot sequences, then all we need to do is edit the text and change the names and locales, and we've got a new short story!
I actually did have one person believe me but most of the listeners get PO'd and tell me to get lost. "Hey, you asked," I tell them.
And I've actually had people come to me (usually in a bar, duh) and say, "You're a writer. You've got a couple of novels published, some short stories. I've got plenty of good story ideas but I don't know how to put them into a story. What say we team up, I give you ideas and you write 'em out, and we split the money?"
Depending on the person I'm either kindhearted or brusque. Usually "Tell you what. You write your ideas, I write mine, and we each keep our own dough."
